Honda plus

I'm not sure where else to post this question.

Anybody here sign up for the Honda Plus plan?

I'm currently paying about $40 to $50 a month. Is it worth it?

Looks like Honda Plus is the name for HondaCare in Canada. Honda's extended warranty.

My son's '97 Civic would have needed that after 17 years and 300,000 miles, when the auto trans started slipping. Otherwise, the car didn't need any work that would have been covered by a warranty.

Assuming 40 dollars a month and a typical 60 month car loan, you are paying 2400 minimum for that warranty. Not sure how different the options are in Canada vs the US but my dealer offered me the 8 year, 100k zero deductible option for around 1700. There are dealers online who offer that same warranty (the official Honda one, btw) for under 1000.

If you financed and want to cancel, I think Honda will just send you a prorated check for the unused amount (but that doesn't change your monthly payment).

How log are you planning to keep the car? That money for the warranty could go in a repair fund if you plan on keeping the car for a while.

It's a 4 year lease.

Ah, so not an extended warranty, more like a roadside assistance type of deal. On a 4 year lease at 40 a month that sounds pretty expensive.

Here in the US, many insurance carriers offer some of those core services as part of your policy for a pretty cheap sum of money. Might be different in Canada but probably worth a phone call to your insurance company to find out.

cancel the contract. open a savings account. deposit $50 bucks a month for 60 months. by the time you will have a BIG problem (10+ years or >100k miles), the contract would have expired and you won't be covered anyway. use the money for repairs or downpayment for another car.

So true. At 7 years 140k miles on my gd, no issues yet other than ac blower motor going out. (Replaced myself for cost of motor $60)

Guys, check out the link the OP provided... This isn't an extended warranty, Honda Plus is a roadside assistance/concierge program. For the nearly 2k on the cost of his lease, I think there are better options out there.

If this was an extended warranty, it would be a definite cancel - paying a lot for coverage for only year #4 since years 1-3 are covered by the original warranty.

Don't forget that it still might be possible for some lucky Canadians to get a 6year/100k Honda Plus for free if they buy a new Fit before October 31st. From this thread... https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/3rd-...-2015-fit.html

Canadian buyers can register here: Honda Canada
One must be patient for the code to come. I had to wait a week or so for my code to get emailed to me. I'm still going to try to squirrel away $50/month for any repairs that need doing in the future!

In Canada, the same benefits can be had from the CAA for around a hundred or so per year, and they are usable with any car you happen to be in, even if it isn't yours.

In the USA, Canada and Puerto Rico, ALL 2015 Honda cars come with roadside assistance at NO CHARGE for the warranty period of 3 years or 36,000 miles. This is new for 2015 cars only and was announced back in June of this year. My 2015 Fit had a card in the glove box explaining the benefits....details via the links below.

We just received our Honda roadside assistance cards and brochure. It comes about a month or so after you purchase your car. It is a free service that I am sure was somehow added to the MSRP of all new 2015 Honda's.

I also got my Honda Assistance cards about a month in. I also have roadside assistance through State Farm and AAA.

All depends how many miles you put on annually. If your putting on more that 20k a year roughly it's worth it, otherwise most repairs and maintenance are affordable since we have non hybrid / electric cars.
