Navi App

Navi App
Got a chance to make use of the Navi App today. At first the map would go to sleep after a couple minutes, I thought it was the auto lock on my phone but it wasn't. Still not sure why it does it, but I did learn that when it happens to wake it up just click on the lane watch and back off and the map comes back up. Also if you get the "when safe stop and restart" or whatever the message is you can go to your phone and click on the Navi app and it will resend it to the screen without having to stop and put it in park.
It is a pain that it wont give you street or exit names just turn left or right it wil sometimes give exit numbers.
The major pain though is losing cell service you lose the mapping service, it comes up and says no service available.
It also is not all that great with rerouting if you turn off the programed path.
I've decided I will stick with the Garmin. The Navi App would be ok for local if you have a basic clue of where you are but to trust it solely, I think not. :-(

Yep! Seems to me if I remember, the first street pilot didnt even have turn by turn but a line tied to the end target.

Lol, you're welcome. Guess I got caught up in the hype about how great it was from the stupid salesman. I have spent more on dumber crap that is for sure.

I am finding that the app works; but has tonnnnns of bugs.
Calls interrupt the navigation and after you hang up a call or decline a call you have to open hondalink from the car then allow again on your phone screen.
I could almost live with that but today I noticed something even more strange.
The navigation app kept going to a black screen periodically though I knew it was still on because I continued to receive voice instructions.
I eventually discovered it was happening every time I either skipped a song on the ipod or used siri.
Even after I stopped the car and restarted it this continued. The only thing that fixed it was restarting the iphone.
Honda needs to invest a lot more time working out the kinks with this.
I tried to vent my frustrations to their customer service twitter app but all they told me was to call the 800 number to tell them my concerns.
I don't mind talking to their support people but I would much rather fire off an email then waste my time on the phone.

I started with a GPSIII which was the first small Garmin to have maps. I had to upload the detail maps to the unit from my computer through a serial (not USB!) cable. There was enough capacity for about 300 miles of driving as long as the areas weren't too urban. The GPS would display a moving map, but it wouldn't correct it to put your car on the nearest road. It would often show you trundling happily through the boonies a hundred yards from the road! If you wanted turn-by-turn you had to put waypoints on the intersections in question.
Oh, how far we've come in a decade!
