Do people buy fits for ?
#2
I would say people buy Fits because they are awesome cars! Great cargo versatility, decent mileage, and decent handling. It's not a sports car, and it's not a truck, but it's a good compromise between the two if you ask me. It's super easy to drive and park and it hauls a surprising amount of people and stuff for a car its size.
That's why I bought my Fit! Can't speak for others...

Short answer from me...gas milage and cargo space. To me it isn't very "sporty" because it doesn't have much power.
Long answer:
I bought my 2013 fit base AT because:
1. My big ole dog (ease of getting in and out and room to move)
2. It's a honda
3. Decent gas milage
4. Cargo space
5. Very functional
My previous car was 1998 accord lx v6 (LOVED that car!)
What I found about the fit, for me, after driving it 1 month:
1. It's fun to drive but it's no v6 lol (duh me). I didn't think I would miss the pick up/power of my old car as much as I do.
2. The tight steering makes it FEEL more sporty than I consider it to be, which is nice.
3. It looks more like a mini minivan than I noticed at first.
4. The interior (roof, doors, carpet, seats, etc.) feel "cheap" to me...roof and doors feel like thin cardboard w/very thin material covering it. Again I had a 98 accord lx before.
5. VERY noisy on the highway (sounds like the windows are slightly open...it annoys me to no end unless stereo volume is high).
6. Great stereo!
7. While there are many cup holders, not many hold a 33 oz. water bottle easily.
8. Not much small item storage space in front cabin.
9. Reminds me of my first car '69 VW square back ie: a big go cart. Again fun to drive.
10. Maybe I should have bought the sport model?!
Just FYI I bought the fit because my accord broke down. I had to choose whether to keep fixing the accord or get a new vehicle. I opted to for a new vehicle. I knew I would probably buy the Fit for my next car but I rushed into the purchase because of the info the service center gave me re: my accord and for cost reasons, I rented a car while deciding whether to fix old or purchase new.
The fit is a nice cute little car. I look forward to minimal maintenance until 100k miles. I think if I had more time to "plan" to buy a Fit I wouldn't be comparing it to my old accord as much as I am. That being said It IS a HONDA, my 4th Honda so I have faith I will grow to love it as I have loved every other Honda I have owned.

Time for a new car,
Tired of domestic car companies screwing me with Recalls and not notifying me
Great mileage
Great storage capacity
Sporty looking
Handles better than POS Chevy I had
Peppier than POS Chevy
Just wanted it!

Because it's the only thing that Honda offers now that reminds me of their golden age despite the inferior suspension. Small motor but tight manual trans, low power but eager motor, fairly light, nimble, decent fuel economy, can haul a bunch of stuff, safe for it's size, affordable.

1. 4 doors are good for people with kids.
2. Hatch is good for people with dogs.
3. Gas mileage is good for people with other things to spend money on.
4. Honda figured out how to fit lots of cargo space in this thing.
5. Small cars with manuals are a lot more fun than their horsepower would indicate.

i like the fit for these reasons:
- comes in manual and they aren't impossible to find
- hatchback + rear wiper <3. if they made a shorter 3 door version that still had same backseat space but less cargo overall that would be ideal for me
- enough space for big and tall sized people in the back seat without compromising front seat space
- all the colors are good looking.
- aftermarket support

I doubt anyone will buy a Fit only for it's handling. That's not to say it isn't fun to drive, but I don't think that's the primary draw for most people. If handling is all that matters there are better choices out there.
Like most people here, my decision was based on a number of factors, and no matter where I looked the Fit kept coming out on top.
My criteria for a new car were:
1) Maximum Cargo Space
2) Maximum fuel efficiency
3) Reliability
4) As close to $20K total price as possible
Now, obviously you can get more cargo space in other cars, but then you'll get lower fuel efficiency. So, it's a balancing act of all the factors.
The Fit won out, easily, over everything else I looked at.

I have not any real need for mine. It is my retirement toy. I am trying to spend it vs leaving it for the kids.
We have a Caravan which would be all the vehicle we really need if it came down to it.
So I just pissed away a bunch on a Sport Grille and the RSB should be here any day. I worked her front end this morning with the grill can't wait to get her jacked up to work on her rear

Reliability.
GD/GE do not possess a very "sporty" chassis/engine. Too much cage roll, very little fender space, bad breaks, and the engine isn't very tuneable (really hard to get decent hp gains when compared to other simiar engines like the Honda D series).
It does have a decent wheelbase and good suspension setup.
The new fits (2015) have improved many of those bad elements, though.

This is my daily driver.
Needs to work for local trips, occasionally with a client.
Or to the beach.
Or to a day at the range.
Or to my hangar with parts.
Or to take family and dog almost anywhere.
Or cross-continent roadtrip (did it twice in my 2009)
All with high fuel efficiency, easy loading, good performance
All extremely reliable, inexpensive to maintain
Likely to keep for 150,000+ miles again
Simple.

The Fit is my choice for the following combination of reasons, that no other car can fully match:
1. Versatile cargo capacity
2. Excellent Fuel Economy
3. Unmatched reliability
4. High resale value
5. Manual transmission availability
6. Unique, even if somewhat awkward styling
7. Compact size for easy parking in my Garage
8. Good handling, meaning connection to the road
I would be willing to spend $50k or more for a car that can do all these things. But there are not many choices of cars that can do all of what a Fit can do, while still providing the fuel efficiency, reliability and fun to drive that the Fit does. I have always maintained that the Fit is one of the best engineered cars in the world, in terms of all the various systems working well together to create a car that is as efficient as the Fit is.

I bought a Fit because it was the best deal for a car that met my needs and primary wants: fuel efficiency, decent cargo space, and cruise control as I tend to do a fair bit of highway driving where it's very handy. I think (at the time I was shopping, at least) that the base Fit was the least expensive car with cruise control, amazingly enough. Lots of competitors came with all sorts of snazzy gadgets like fancier radios and such, but lacked cruise unless you shelled out for the expensive fancy trims.
I've been pretty happy with it. The interior space utilization is remarkable, the handling and power more than sufficient for me, and it's quite economical to operate.

First time I have ever considered a Honda, I find every other car in its class lacking. As a professional automotive technician I know thier reputation for reliability.
Really i need a replacement for my wifes Geo Metro Convertible. Its only has 2 seats and i will need 3 this November!
Almost as good mpg as the Geo
Hatchback
So much room for activities!
Sporty
Comes with a manual
Cheap
