That is right. It is not the slow start that helps fuel economy. In fact, too slow can actually hurt fuel economy. But it is what you do with that momentum you have put into the car. If you speed up to 50MPH only to hit your brake and slow back down within a mile, then you have wasted that energy input and you will get poor economy.
I see so many people post, that they are driving like a granny, but getting poor fuel economy. And I would have to agree, that granny driving, on and off the throttle and brake at very slow speeds, will result in very poor fuel economy.

AutoSpeed - Brake Specific Fuel Consumption
BSFC can be kind of counter-intuitive and I'm not sure what the optimum point is on the Fit but I think that the ambient meters try and clue you in as I noticed sometimes, they'd be blue in 5th or 6th for a given speed but then I'd downshift to 4th and they'd go green while maintaining the same speed.

If your sole consideration is mpg, then no.

I just drove from San Diego to Phoenix with my EX-L air was on half the way, 105 in Phoenix. I stayed just below the speed limit. San Diego is sea level I went over mountains 4000+ ft high to Phoenix which is at 1000 ft one passenger and I got 40.5 mpg. Yippee!

If the average readout is lying to you, that sucks. I went through that with the "09. The only thing that is good for is impressing people and kidding yourself. This was originally about MUCH better gas mileage for the 2015. The average readout being off AGAIN is souring to me, frankly. As much as I hate the truth in my Fit, I prefer it over inflated numbers. Sorry to hear about this yet again. And if that trip you took @ 40.5 actually yielded you 37.5, I can do that in my 2012 rather easily. I've tickled 40 mpg on full highway drives without a problem whatsoever.

YAY! First highway driving (if you can call 19 from Clearwater to St. Petersburg a highway - the Gulf coast folks will know what I mean), and going I got 40 mpg; coming back the Gulf route I got 51!
Now THAT's more like it!

What's missing are no pics of that Gulf route!!! Then again, should'nt be that much different from our shores, with the exception of crocs and alligators!!!
Keeping enjoying the drive!!!

Mpg!!!
Just fueled up for the third time. Drove back and forth to work for 5 days which is half city half highway driving then took a highway trip today about 100 miles round trip. Averaged 41.55 MPG! Most Stations around here require pre-pay and I'm so used to paying $40-$50 .... Sweet-Chocolate-Jeesus! Less than half a tank only cost $20 to fill!! In case you don't believe me here's the numbers 244.8 miles/ 5.891 gallons ... that's the AVERAGE! I am impressed, happy, pleased and feel like i'm boasting, but it's true! I am trying to insert an image ... hope it works

New Milage Update
Just took a day trip to Cape Cod to see my folks, all highway - cruise set at 65mph with the usual bumps up for passing and down for congestion. Nice day so didn't run the AC. I DID hit 90 mph at one point and the little thang handles really well. It's like a really nice go-kart (am used to driving a truck). Long story short: 168.1 miles/ 3.906 gallons which translates to 43.03 MPG!
The dash-display informed me I was getting 45.6mpg average. Not understanding why everyone is so upset at the inaccuracy, except for the fact that it's an easy calculation ... maybe a software issue? It gives you a decent gauge of your driving and the ACTUAL (in my case) is still WAY better than advertised, so far. Also am not driving like a granny and getting right up to speed ... because it's FUN
This little car is pretty quick!
