2015 Dealer Price...and What You Paid

Hi gang,
Now that 2015 Fits are fimally arriving, what are you seeing in prices at the dealer. And what did you end up paying? I know one dealer locally who is marking them up by $1,500 over list.

1. Model, any accessories
2. Location
3. Dealer Price
4. Selling Price (before trade)

I'm sure this thread will evolve, but lets get the bal rolling!

1. EX, CVT, Red. No accessories
2. San Diego, KA
3. MSRP. $19,025
4. MSRP. Traded a 2009 Fit Sport.

For my LX Automatic with no accessories in Drexel Hill, PA I paid a clean $17k even. $115 under MSRP.

Around here in Austin no dealer is going above MSRP. Some don't charge you destination, so you save a bit there. Under MSRP won't be coming until they get enough in stock to where they stay on the lot a couple days.

Ok, he fixed it...

Heck, even if you paid $18,000 that is a pretty screaming deal. Did they not include the dealer delivery fee to the price?

I bow to your negotiating skills....

But if you bought a 2015 Fit EX for... $1,800 , then you got the deal of a lifetime! We all want one for that price!

Oops, edited to $18,000. They must have wanted my trade in 2009 Pilot 4WD Touring w/ 36,000 miles, though I feel like I got a good deal on the trade at $23k.

Andrew, are you saying that the price of your new fit was $18,000 and then they gave you $23,000 in trade, so they will be writing you a check for $5000 when you pick up your Fit? Or are you saying you paid list price of $19,225 and you feel that $23,000 was an over- allowance of $1225, so you essentially this is a net of $18,000 that you paid for the fit?

Yup, minus the $150 document fee and couple hundred DMV fees they are writing me a check for close to $5000 when I pick it up. I texted the salesman yesterday and they haven't arrived yet but hopefully they start to come in today.

Not just "a check." But a check "close to $5000!"

For anyone else with Extreme Youth Deficiency Syndrome, hooptie.

P.S. I'm not accusing Amy of being extremely youthful... it's just that I have an Extreme Deficiency

I'm 25. I really enjoy that quote on Urban Dictionary.. the phattest hooptie in town, haha. I hope I don't have that!! Also, from that definition- YIKES! I guess I have to retract my "hooptie" label. Although it does have a blown out tire in the trunk and a broken back seat, does that count??!

It would be helpful if folks would limit themselves to the "out the door" price including all the junk fees and other charges. In other words, if you were paying for the car outright, what would be the number you wrote on the check?

Including trades or quoting intermediate numbers complicates things which pretty much perpetuates the dealer's shell game.

I was thinking the exact same thing George. It would be much easier if we got a final "total check written price". And then if you wanted to list the separate invoice charges including junk fees that could be helpful as well. I am thinking of going to dealers and saying that I am willing to pay MSRP, tax, title and delivery but nothing else. I know they would make a profit if they did that. Does anyone think that is a good tactic.

No sir...not good. Instead, go to several dealers with a list of model, options, etc. and have them give you their best price in writing...they know you'll be comparing.

The traditional rule in negotiations is that the first person to name a number has the other party at a disadvantage. Dealers combat this by engaging in a shell game of negotiating a price and then adding a bunch of fees, taxes, and other charges onto it when the customer isn't looking. Add to that their games in the finance department and it becomes very easy to bamboozle the customer into paying thousands more.

Since I don't finance or have a trade my way of simplifying this is to simply ask "what number do I have to write on the check?" The dealer can have all the fun they want juggling numbers but the "check" number is the number I compare with other dealers.

Mind you, I believe that everyone deserves a decent living, but that doesn't mean that I'm willing to buy Cohibas for the entire sales staff.

I didn't get MUCH off of MSRP (due to this being the ONLY manual trans in the state at the moment), but I got some. Plus, I got to say no to all of the add ons that jack up the price. Since I have a LOT to put down, I'm still fairly happy with the price I got.
