Could you clarify:
What was the price of the car?
How much were the dealer installed accessories?
How much was the sales tax?
How much did you pay in dealer doc, or processing fee?
Was there a trade involved?
Sticker=$19035
W/dealer accessories $19737
Ohio Sales tax $534.00
Dealer doc fee $250 (state law)
No trade

Purchase price $18436

Well you definitely got the deal of the year on that one! I seriously doubt that anyone else on this forum will ever come within $1000 of the deal you got that amounts to $2085 off!

As you pointed out, the maximum dealer doc fee in Ohio is legislated at $250. A few other states have maximum doc fees, and some are not capped or regulated at all and are outrageously high, like shown here: Which Additional Fees Should I Pay at the Dealership? What is The Doc Fee?

I still don't understand how, without a trade, your sales tax was only $534. It seems like, at Ohio's 7.25% tax rate, that the sales tax should have been $1290.

Tax was $1289.25. In Ohio I can put part of the sales tax against the company I own since I can claim the car for company and personal use. I had them treat the difference of $534 and $1289.35 as tax exempt and then i will report the difference on my company taxes. Frankly as a loss.

Finally picked up my EX 6MT (4 days late due to a power outage and the holiday). Review to follow at a later date/different thread.

EX-6MT Alabaster Silver, stock.
Purchased in Scotia, NY @ Mohawk Honda. (I live in North Salem, NY.... drove the 100+ miles to actually get a 6MT... tax rate listed is for North Salem)
Dealer was selling at sticker: 18225.
No trade-in ('05 Civic died in May, sold to salvage then).

OTD was $19726.59.
Price breakdown as follows:
Sticker (w/ delivery): $18225
Tax (Westchester Co, NY 7.375%): $1344.09

(the remaining items are non-taxable)

-State required fees
NYS Inspection: $10.00 (mandatory, state fixes the price shop can charge).
NYS Tire Disposal Fee: $12.50 (mandatory on sale of new tires, including tires on new cars, a per tire fee of $2.50)
NYS Title Fee: $50
NYS Registration Fee (transfer of existing plates and unexpired registration in same class): $10
-Add'l charges:
Dealer Doc Fee: $75 (NYS state limit).

Pretty clean straight forward sale with no real BS charges (I think the $75 doc fee is pretty reasonable, all things considered).

Congrats on the new wheels!!! A very decent deal indeed.

Some of us will be paying more and some less. But after the purchase is done, who of us really thinks about the price paid once its driven everyday??? From whatever the initial cash out, the mindset reverts to focusing on ownership/driving pleasure.

Enjoy the Fit and will be waiting for your thread.

FINALLY got my Fit! Aegean blue EX-L with Navi.

Paid MSRP 21,590- 300 discount plus dealer fee $479. Added tint for $350 since I could finance it. So

21, 290 sales price
21,769 with dealer fee
22,119 with tint before tax
23,721 with taxes out the door.

There is only 1 dealer in my area that does not charge the dealer fee. Got good service and didn't pay much of the dealer fee anyway with the $300 off.

Congratulations on the car. I must say, however, that dealers bank on the type of rationalizations buyers will accept in order to not feel bad for above list price (essentially $179 Additional Dealer markup in your case). Smoke and mirrors fees to cheat the customer.

At the end of the day, two things are true. It's your money to spend as you see fit, and dealer management can be ruthless if you don't set them straight.

At least you got the car you want. In a year, the same dealership manager will be kissing ass to close an identical deal, so what goes around will eventually come around.

Went to dealer in Dallas downtown for test drive. Unfortunately they do not have any in stock. They sold out quickly. I got a quote of $18110 (with dealer extras) + tax (6.25%) + $250 (doc) for LX. According to them, they are not going to sell without dealer extras. I am not sure about this dealer quotes. He also quoted me 20K + tax + doc for even Civic LX. I knew some one who got Civic LX for $18500 on the road.

Thanks

I agree with you. I had to bully him into the $300 off. In the Denver area these Fits are flying off the lot within 2-3 days of being up for sale. Almost all of them charge the bs "dealer fee" so that's kind of what I had to work around.

I could have gotten a better deal if I had waited but this was the first Blue EX-L with or without navi hitting the lot within driving distance of me, and is expected to be the only one for weeks from the in transit inventory I can see and what a few different dealers have looked up in the Honda system for me. I had to have blue EX-L and I was in somewhat of a time crunch since my old 2002 SUV has been on the fritz with many needed expensive repairs. So my piece of mind was worth an extra $180 for me!!

That's insane. I'd be happy with that price even with a manual EX, since I'm guessing that MSRP + taxes (6%) and fees here in KY is going to cost me about $19750 for a manual. How'd you pull that one off?
