2015 Dealer Price...and What You Paid
#221
Just as a warning of how screwed you guys can get if you don't listen to the advice of people regarding the finance department.
I also just realized that we paid more for the car than the MSRP of the EX-L with Navi, and we only have the EX. This was a bait and switch price for us, as the dealer indiciated the MSRP of the EX and the finance department changed it to the EX-L with Navi.
Son of a bitch. I'm glad I like this car, otherwise I'd drive it off a cliff if there were any in this flat ass area of Texas.

we need to do better
The documentary fee clearly does not cover transfer of title etc., those are already charged elsewhere, in addition. So, must be the charge for typing up that pink paper list for you.
If I were going to spend that much for a car I think I would have gotten a certified used bmw instead. About the same money, mediocre milage, but good reliability, probably excellently maintained, more bells, whistles, comfort and performance and much safer in a crash. Of course if something does break you pay thru the nose…
fwiw my 2 cents

Not many in this world are willing to share their oversights in public. You're of a rare breed. Kudos for the share (in detail)!!!

I'm sorry that you had such a horrible experience. Please name the dealer if you haven't already. This is some bull right here.
I respect your taking responsibility for agreeing to the terms, and I think it's great that you're sharing your experience to educate others. I still think that the dealership is still culpable, though. Just my opinion.
I'm glad to hear that you're happy with the car, but I would take most of the advice people have given you and cancel all the supplementary stuff like GAP, extended warranties, etc. ASAP. I'd also shop around for a better finance rate. With a good credit score like you have, you should have no problems.
And lastly, continue to enjoy your car! Don't beat yourself up over this. Sounds like you've got a good head on your shoulders, and you'll come out of this alright.

Or maybe it was you who played the games on the dealer, and he did not even realize that he lost $1500 by selling the car to you at this price
Like I said before, no one will ever beat this deal!

Thank you for posting this invoice! Sometimes folks do not really know what they paid for a car, because of the games that dealers play. But as clearly shown on this invoice, you paid $17,072 for a car with an MSRP of $19,025 and that the dealer paid $18,541 for. How you did that, I will never know.

We'd been waiting and watching for more Fits to become available, thinking we'd buy in the fall, when our current car (1994 VW Golf) got a terminal diagnosis and we were forced on to the market now. We wanted an LX MT in White Orchid Pearl. I found two of them within a two-hour drive, got quotes from the internet sales people, one was $400 less but was bought within a few hours of me calling, so we had to go for the other one...
MSRP: $15,525
Destination: $790
NJ Tax: $1,142
Doc Fee: $349
Registration: $70
-----------------------------
TOTAL: $17,876
Cash deal, no trade-in.
This was an NJ dealership right outside NYC, so the doc fees all around there are high. We tried our hardest to get these guys down, or even throw in a few extras -- something! We even walked out. It didn't make any difference. Basically they had been told by their sales manager not to budge an inch on the Fit. They said that if you don't buy it, another person in the next few days will. Sadly, they were right... It was annoying because they weren't even trying to sell the car. It was like they were doing us a favor! I really didn't want to give these guys our money after the great Honda salespeople I'd met at our local dealership, but if we wanted that exact car, we would've had to drive 3-4 hours, and listen, I am nine months pregnant, so I'm just not doing that.
Good news is that they wouldn't take our trade-in, the 94 Golf, so we're selling it on Craigslist and it looks like we'll make enough there over trade-in value to offset the doc fee. And so far we are very happy with our new Fit!

About to go pick up my 2015 Fit. Modern Steel Metallic LX manual transmission will be $17,100 with all taxes and fees included. So excited! I'll post a breakdown later - was more concerned about getting my "out the door" price and wasn't too worried about how they were going to work the numbers.

The secret is that the "invoice price" isn't the dealer's cost for the car. Dealers receive various incentives and allowances from the manufacturer which add to their profit. The "invoice" number is just as fanciful as the "MSRP" number and is the reason that dealers can sell "below invoice" and still exist.

I understand holdback of 2-3% and other inside incentives given to dealers for meeting sales targets and what amount to essentially unadvertised dealer incentives. But it think it is fair to assume that the new fit is not loaded up with these types of incentives just yet, when supply has not yet caught up with demand. So the sale of a car with a dealer invoice of $18,541 for $17,072 is not explained by $500 in holdback.

wow you got a great deal! is there no tax where you live?

which bay area dealer did you go to?
