Disappointed in trim levels

Hi all! My first post. :-)

I have to say, I'm really disappointed in how Honda set up the trim levels. Specifically, you have to get the EX-L version to get heated mirrors. Heated mirrors are a safety issue for anyone living in colder climates and auto manufacturers shouldn't require you to buy a moonroof and leather just to get them.* I'm also puzzled why the EX has a moonroof but not a leather-wrapped steering wheel. I don't want a moonroof or leather, which I consider luxury items, but I DO want heated mirrors and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, which I consider far more basic options.

*Honda isn't the only manufacturer doing this, of course. To get heated mirrors on the Versa Note, you have to get the highest trim level, the SL with the Tech package. Ford at least offers a Winter Package on the Focus and Fiesta that bundles heated mirrors and heated seats for only a couple hundred dollars.

One of the guys here from Canada I thought posted the other day that they automatically get heated mirrors because of their climate. Whether that applies to this model I don't know. For $1600 to get the leather , heated mirrors and seats and leather trim on steering wheel and shifter, I don't find that a bad bargain. Don't take that as a slam cause it isn't, just my opinion I felt good about the cost per luxury
And welcome to the forum. I am new also but everyone is quite pleasant here.

It's not that I think $1600 is a bad price for that package, I just don't think I should have to pay for all those extras just in order to get something basic like heated mirrors. It would be nice to see Honda make them standard in the EX, or even in the base trim as Kia and Hyundai do with most of their cars. Or the U.S. could merge with Canada and adopt their "heated mirrors required" mantra.

Of course, then the GWN gets the "Air Conditioning Required" mantra along with it!

Here in SoCal, I need heated mirrors like a fish needs a bicycle!

The funny thing for me is that a lot of the features I want are only available on the LX. Volume knob. 15" wheels. Better mileage. More headroom with no hole in the roof. Go figure!

I remember sitting there while my Dad bought a Chevy back in the late '60s. Most all options were ala carte. It took a long time to select all the options and then weeks for the car to be built and arrive. I'm not sure that the current method is better or worse, but at least we don't have to wait.

Oh, wait a minute. We've already been waiting for months!

You know, George, you make a good point. I guess the only thing that I REALLY want on the EX is the upgraded audio system, and maybe the alloy wheels too. The rest is nice, but not a huge deal.

Edit: has anyone seen any photos of the LX interior? It seems like all the photos out there--including on the Honda site--are of the EX with the larger touch screen. The LX supposedly has a 5-inch screen, versus the 7-inch screen in the EX.
