LED Conversion

A friend is considering doing an LED headlight conversion on her 2020 Fit. Have any of you done that? She would have her mechanic do the job. What about the cost, the process, and the results?

LED Conversion Headlights.

The LED lights are expensive. Around 200 to 300 a set. You lose your daytime running lights with LED lights.

For bright H4 lights I use PIAA Extreme White light bulbs. Brightest bulbs on the market.

I didn't know about the loss of daytime lights. That's no good. The bulbs themselves are available for $50, or so.

Unfortunately Yes.

They don't last as long as the dull Sylvania Silverstars.

PIAA Extreme didn't last long for me. First set burnt out before the 1 year warranty and they sent me another. That set also burnt out before the year so I cut my losses.

I did the LED bulbs and and have been running them for years without issue. DRL work just fine. Also did LED switchback for the front turn signals. They are white, then change to yellow when the turn signal is activated and then change back to white. Fig lights are yellow LED and have been working for years.

DRL's With LED's?

They still work with LED's?

That's not what my local aftermarket auto store and GTR Lighting told me.

DRL's And LED Lights.

I googled the question,

Do Daytime Running Lights still work with LED Lights?

Here's the answer I got;

However, replacing your daytime running lights with just an LED bulb isn't as cut and dry as it appears. Most of the time, the LED bulb doesn't receive enough power and will give you a whole slew of issues like throwing a warning message on the dashboard, flickering, partially light up or even not lit at all.

That makes sense. Actually, I don't want to be one of those drivers who blind oncoming drivers from a mile away. I have seen ophthalmologists speak out against them - the headlights, not the drivers..

Going with proper LED headlights like the Morimoto MLED 2.0 would require a lighting specialist or someone with decent car knowledge, most mechanics wouldn't do it. But the end results of a proper LED conversion are worth it in my opinion. The installation of the headlights themselves could be done by a garage mechanic or a real mechanic.

The daytime running lights are just your highbeams at half wattage so if you are just replacing the bulb with an LED bulb you will lose your DRLs. Going with different headlights or adding to your stock headlights can give you a DRL but you will need to run a wire from the engine bay to the fuse box inside the cabin.

I see you added a different horn. I added a loud pair to my 2015. That required quite a bit of disassembly. I wouldn't do it again.

I ended up switching to the PIAA bass horns but I'm going to make a new bracket for them and run them to a relay. It only requires taking off the bumper. I've done it enough times that I can do it in 5-10 minutes. It's not really hard but it definitely felt daunting the first couple times I did it.

Looking back, I paid $30 for "Sport Horns" in 2015.

Daytime Running Lights.

I'll have to stay with the H4 Halogen PIAA Extreme White Bulbs.

I'm not giving up my Daytime Running Lights for LED's.

That's fine so long as you're ok replacing the bulbs 1x a year lol. I went to LED and kept the drls. Never going back to conventional bulbs again.

H4 LED Lights DO NOT HAVE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT CAPABILITY.

I'm not giving up this safety feature for brighter lights for driving at night.

Sorry, but that’s incorrect..I have Auxito LED’S in my 2017, have for 2 years now and my DRL’s still work. Plug and play, no mods. Maybe it depends on the brand

You say Daytime Running Lights work with the upgraded LED Lights.

According to GTR Lighting;

The LED lights I want to get tell me LED Lights don't have the Daytime Running Light capability.

Why would GTR Lighting tell me that if they're interested in selling their LED Lights?

I would love to upgrade to LED Lights if they have Daytime Running Lights capability.

I'll stay with PIAA H4 Halogen Extreme White Bulbs.
