Watch Out for That Hatch!
I recently opened the hatch on my Fit and I bumped my head, not realizing that in cold weather, the hatch might not open completely. I have a quarter-size scab on my head. Luckily, I was wearing a hat.
I've become used to opening the hatch and diving right in. No more!

They usually package parts properly, so there's little damage to be concerned with.
I once ordered a set from ebay for my Lexus IS. By the time they arrived they were leaking hydraulic fluid all over the place rendering the lift supports useless.
Never purchasing from that seller again!

OEM struts cost about $40 each. I bought a pair of aftermarket struts for about $35 including shipping. That was about 2 years ago. They seem to be holding up ok. They actually seemed better quality that the OEM. Why? bass or bronze inserts in the ball joint sockets, where the rods screw into the sockets. Original struts – the rods screw directly into plastic. Also the aftermarket ones, I think they were called Tuff Support or something like that – they had more pressure than the OEM. Maybe a bit too much. Hatch goes flying up very quickly. I tend to keep my hand on the hatch as it's opening, to slow it down a bit, and keep it from hitting the top of its travel, with a bang.. It is easy enough to close the hatch. Only normal effort is needed.
