Children's car seats question

I want to visit my niece and take her on a trip nearby. She has two toddlers, a 2 yr old and a 4 year old, my husband is skinny and 5'10. I am skinny and 5'4. Mom is medium and 5'6. Would I be able to fit in the back middle seat with 2 car seats, or do we need to travel with a second car? I am not experienced with car seats.

Thanks for any help you can give.

It's certainly doable in the 2009-13 generation, from personal experience. I can't say about the new model, as the rear seat configuration is a major change between the two.

Thanks! I'll give her a call and find out what brand car seats they are. Her vehicle is unreliable, so we will need to provide transport. Maybe somebody on here has done it... Or tried and failed. I don't really want to double our gas prices by driving a second car 900 miles each way to get there... But I don't want to get there and have to cancel because we don't fit.

The last time I had two car seats in a rear seat was with a 1978 Oldsmobile Cutlass station wagon--and there was barely room for a skinny adult to sit uncomfortably in that. Car seats are about 17-18" wide. Center that much of a tape measure on the LATCH attachment points on the outboard seats. That'll give you an idea of how much room would be left between them.

Note that if they're rear-facing, you'll have more shoulder room than if forward-facing.

I have 3 car seats in my 2015 Fit and all three fit okay in there. Two are the "booster" seats with the large car seat in the middle, so I'm sure everyone can fit.

By the time I visit they will both be in booster seats so I think I will fit in the middle. Yay! That will leave more money for children's museums and such. Fit is still having fun. Still absolutely no issues to report.

Thanks! Luckily, her toddlers are quite large and have the booster seats without the full sides, so they can face forwards, so I believe we will fit. I don't mind being squished, and nobody is particularly tall. I'll post pics whenever we go, but it won't be til next year.
