Tire size

Yes. Increases overall width of the tyre by 30mm. Which is fine. But your speedo will be slower than your actual speed because the circumference of the wheel is smaller. The speedos on stock wheels tend to read slower anyway, so depending on how much yours is off by stock, you could be up to 4mph slower at 60mph.

That's asking a bit much for a 6" wide wheel. Almost every tire manufacturer recommends, at a minimum, a 7" wheel width for a 215/45. Not saying you are not going to get a seal on the bead, but is there a particular reason you want to run that wide of a tire on the stock wheel?

205 is typically the widest you want to run on the stock wheels. Like was also mentioned, your speedo (and odo) are going to be about 1.6% on the high side. (you'll be reading faster than you are actually traveling - and your car will hit a mile on the odometer about 75' before you actually go a mile.
Not that this likely impacts you but if someone did this on a new car, their 100,000 mile power train warranty would expire after the vehicle had only traveled 98,600 miles (however the odometer would say 100,000 miles.)
Like 555 asked, is there a specific reason for this size? 205/50 works really nicely on the stock wheels. That's what I run.

Why are you necro'ing this thread and then going off topic?
edit: oops, mistyped the aspect ratio of the tire. 145 would be freaky.

205/50/17 will make the overall diameter an inch bigger, and as far as your odometer, it means you'll be going faster than it indicates.
I think the tires you want are 205/50/16, those will fit OEM wheels.

If you're going to 17" wheels and want to keep the odo "correct," then you'll want 205/45/17 tires, not 205/50/17.
