Smile Fitment assistance, 16x8 e20

Good evening, everybody. I'm both new to the forum and new to the vehicle customizing world. As you may have guessed from the thread title, I'm looking at getting a set of wheels in 16x8 with a +20 offset.

The wheels in question are Rota Grid V/Classics. I've been looking for any instances of people fitting these wheels specifically to the GE8. I have thus far found two.

This image:

http://tunedmotiondotcom.files.wordp...7/dsc01596.jpg

and the build/progress thread here:

Hollywood*'s CBP GE8 ~THE DAILY~ - Honda-Tech

Basically, I want to be absolutely sure these are going to fit without too much hassle (read: okay with fender rolling, NOT with fender pulling). On that build thread posted above, the wheels are in a +10 offset , and in the image above that, there was no information given on the specs.

In the build thread, someone asked about the wheel specs, which prompted a reply from the original poster saying that he had to modify the front wheels to clear the calipers. This got me wondering what he had to do and whether or not the same result can be achieved with spacers.

As well, I'd like to see if any other people have fitted 16x8 wheels with offset in the neighborhood of +20, and learn about their experiences with them.

NOTE: I will be lowering the car soon on a set of Eibach Sportlines.

Thanks in advance for any replies!

Anyway, I have found the owner of the black Fit, and sent him a message asking about his specs. Will update on that front, but in the mean time, anybody with similar setups, please share your experiences.

Dude. To to the wheel subforum (titled "shoes") and look through the threads. Youll see a ton of low offset, stanced, flush, blablablabla threads that have been asked 100 times.

20et =pulled fenders unless you are 4x4

I'll probably be doing a set of wheels in this size, so I'll let you know. Haha.

Only way they will look good on your car is if you are lowered on coilovers AND have your fenders rolled with an actual fender roller correctly.

Excellent. Definitely let me know how it turns out. I won't be making this happen until mid-November, so all info gathered before that time is very helpful.

Coilovers MAY happen, but for now it's just gonna be springs. Specifically the Eibach Sportlines which drop the car 1.6" front and back. I'm also good friends with swflej1 and BlackMagicWoman, who own a fender roller, so that won't be a problem. I'm just not comfortable currently with doing any fender pulling. I know that swflej1 plans on it when he gets his coils, so maybe after seeing it in person I'll change my mind lol.

EDIT: I now realize that the wheels in both examples that I first posted are Grid Offroads, not the V's or the Classics.

im running 16x8 et20 with a 195 45 16 tire i have pulled my fenders super far! and there is still a lil poke! i have rims that need a spacer cuz the caliper braket is in the way, a simple 10mm spacer will make it clear. the "big/legendary" brake upgrade might provide a way to correctly remove this bracket.

Man, those are gorgeous wheels! I was looking at a set of VarrsToen V3, but I'm much too lazy to take the time to clean them properly lol.

With the quick math I did and some initial measurements, the wheels would stick out of the front fender by a little less than an inch, and be pretty much flush in the back. The slight poke isn't too bad, but I'd have to see it in person though.

I know swflej1 did a big brake conversion on his, but he had some problems with backspacing and such afterwards.

haha thanks just got the wheels, and i have only cleaned them once and its not that bad

if you run the same set up as me, it will stick out over 1in. i have spent super long trying to pull the fenders that far and it has near an in. of poke now

Quoting this for truth.

1.6" drop is not enough for the look. Also probably going to rub everywhere with stock shocks and lowering springs. Too much shock travel on uneven surfaces.

If you decide to go through with it anyway, good luck, I hope it comes out like you want it to.

Hmm that may mean that I would need spacers as well. Is 10mm the minimum that you could work with? Because that adds like half an inch towards the fenders.

Agreed with Wanderer. and my J's lip amigo.

This will look like junk unless you're very low.

Are we talking less than a 1.6" drop? I was looking at another set of springs that drop the car 1.8" up front and 2" in the back. I'm just worried about wear on the shocks.

2.5" MINIMUM before it would look decent, would need more than that to look good. Any springs at that height will blow your shocks fast, besides, all the travel the stock shocks allow will make you rub fenders on uneven pavement, going up driveways/parking lot entrances.

That's why i'm saying get coilovers if you're going to attempt a "stanced look". The shocks can handle being low like that, stock shocks can't. You need to go LOW or stick to less aggressive offsets.

Just my advice, I just don't want you to be dissapointed when you're done and it doesn't get "the look" you were hoping for.

QFT.
This is the only setup I've seen that looks good at 16x8 et20. Keep in mind he's also running 205/40's so he sits lower than you would have to sit with 45's. IIRC he's on BuddyClub's with one perch removed all around.

very true

dont cheap out and get springs on that spec of wheels. If you want to stay with springs, get higher offset wheels so it doesn't have Mexi-poke

Alright, so coils it is, as well as pulled fenders. It still makes me cringe to think about it, but if it must be done, then so be it.

Also, still need some input on the whole "modifying the wheels to clear the calipers" thing. That needed to be done on et10 wheels. Should I assume the same will need to happen for a 20 offset? If so, could the desired result be attained with spacers?

P.S.

Thinking cosmic blue Offroads instead of bronze.
