Another GE8 / 09' Wheel "No Rubbing" Thread
#21
Important question here is what is the offset of your wheels? If they are stock 16" as I read your post they are 16x6/53 mm and thats automatic OK. The question everyone needs is just how little the offset can be. we say 42 absolutely minimum with stock suspension and 45 mm with reasonable lowering typical 1.25".

gee thanks. Yeah, I actually did know better, but wanted these wheels and figured I'd get the front fenders rolled and pulled, I just did exactly that last night and no more rubbing.

camber does not cause premature tire wear, TOE does. ive been running -2 camber in on my scion tc for the past 3 years and im still on the same tires. they look like normally worn tires, nothing weird. HOWEVER, you MUST get an alignment after you lower because it changes your toe setting. after alignment, the tires should be fine. the actual only problem is rubbing, thats about it. to fix that add more negative camber OR just roll the fenders. its not that hard. OR just put up with it

Excessive camber and soft springs will cause added wear. -2deg isn't excessive but close to it and most of the lowering that came to to fix required more than 2 degrees. 2 neg egrees of camber will get about 3/8: in at the top of the tire

it causes uneven wear, but not abnormal and quick wear such as toe. i wouldnt worry about risking money or anything over a little bit of camber. if you really are worried, get tires that are rated for long duration like 400 or something

I agree with Chubbykai... camber does not wear tires... it's toe that kills them. I'm running -2 on my car and my tires look great even after a year! I even ran -4 for a while without issues...
Not sure about the fits suspension but when a s2k is lowered, the wheels will pull inwards giving you more space for a wider wheel. For example, a +45 8" wheel might be flush to the wheel well but once the car is lowered the rim will be pulled in and will no longer be flush...
Doe's this affect fits too?

it really depends on the type of suspension the car has. I know for a fact that on my CRX which was upper and lower control arms for the front and rear, i get negative camber all around.
however, on my scion tc, which has upper and lower controls only in the rear and mcpherson type suspension in the front, i only get neg camber in the rear when i lower it.
so to assume (dont know if this is true, only based on the cars i own), neg camber will only NATURALLY happen when you have both upper and lower control arms. you will hardly get any camber with mcpherson type suspension such as on the fit's front wheels and my scion tc front wheels.
on another note, i have never worked with the fit's rear suspesion before. completely new to me haha. but from looking at some pics you wont gain much neg camber, naturally at least.
if you want to run wider wheels and lower offset, you should invest in a camber kit to get some neg camber. it'd help with turn in's too for those fast corner junkies. i would NOT suggest getting thinner tires (i.e 195 over 205 on a 16"). why? because for one your ride quality goes poop. two, you're not drifting so you dont need stiff side walls. three, you run the risk of breaking open the bead on the tire (im not saying ive had first hand experience, but just by theory the bead of the tire isnt fully contacted with the rim). four, it looks kind of funky hhaha in my opinion at least.
if you are really desperate to not rub: ROLL the fenders and get a camber kit. Rolling the fenders arent that difficult, you can even rent a fender roller and DIY.
^this is just my opinion though ahah. sorry if it sounded kind of harsh.... long day at work

not harsh at all man... thanks for the info. Camber kit and a roll sound like a plan. I have my fenders shaved on my s2k and camber is adjustable even stock so I'm not afraid of a little modding to make wheels fit...
too bad about the wheel not pulling in at all... on the S a drop will camber you out a little but aside from the drop it pulls the wheel in too... not just camber, this can help fit some wheels that normally wouldn't fit.

Ok everybody, I have some 205/50/16s and it has really improved the ride of my car(better cornering, less harsh ride.) Now I am curious as to what 45+ rims are available. If this is an optimal offset where are you guys buying your rims? Should I just stay stock to avoid rubbing?
#34
stock 185/55-16 Dunlop rubber. I'm contemplating getting the Enkei RPF1's next season (after the winter) and 205-40-16. I want lighter wheels with the combination of low profile tires. 17s look good but I rather not deal with the excess weight
#36
we can verify that.
For 17" wheels and lowered only 195/40x17 tires on 45 mm offset wheels has a chance.
any recommendations to jusdt roll the fender etc has lots of work to do it right and has a good chance ruining resale value.

I'm looking at 16x7 inch rims with a 45mm offset.
Will be lowered on T1R S-Coils
Only thing I'm worried about is tire size. 205/50/16 will look and fit the best-- but I'm worried about rubbing due to be lowered.
I want that tire size to help fill in more fender gap and also to lift the front a bit off the ground for more clearance.
I have rolled fenders on a car before, and do not want to have to deal with that on my fit.
So 16x7 with 45mm offset on 205/50/16 lowered on T14 S-coils (lowered like 1.4)
What do you guys think?
Thanks...

I'm actually looking at wheels right now getting ready for next season
in terms of 16" what's the lowest offset and wheel combo?
I've read the threads and there's a lot of ppl saying +45 but I was wondering will +42 be okay with 205/50/16 or 205/45/16
but will 16x7 +45 on 205/50/16 rub? I'm on Eiback pro kit
thanks
