Compact Audio Suggestions

I've had my 2010 Honda Fit Sport for about 2 weeks and I love it. The problem is that I am a car-audio nut and although the Fit is spacious, there are not many places you can put amps or subs without killing the utility of the car.

While doing a search I ran across this little guy:

PUNCH Amplifiers - PBR300X4 - Rockford Fosgate®

With one or two of these under a seat, I think it could make things rather interesting! Now for the low-end. Has anyone had experience with any of the shallow-mount self-powered subs? I'm thinking of trying something under the driver's seat.

Some examples are:

Pyle - PLBASS10 - 10-Inch Low-Profile Super Slim Active Amplified Subwoofer System

RetroSoundUSA.com - Sub 8100 video ( Retrosound powered compact subwoofer)

Sound Ordnance™ B-8PT 120-watt compact powered subwoofer at Crutchfield.com

Kicker 11HS8 Hideaway™ compact powered subwoofer: 150 watts and an 8" sub at Crutchfield.com

Thanks folks for any feedback and the plan is to take the stock radio out in favor of a double-din receiver too. Front speakers will be replaced with a set of Pioneer Premier TS-C720PRS components - if they fit. Otherwise I may have to track down some MBQuarts which I loved back in the day.

Question Space under Front Seats looks very sparse - BUT . .

I gave the Fit a long hard look and with the passenger heat vents, the seat bottom height, and full seat travel - I came up with nothing. Now we all know that it all comes down to time and money and anything can be done.

I know the spare tire in the Honda Fit has been ditched in the past, and I've done the very same in my 1995 Buick Roadmaster Station Wagon. Spare has been gone for years and 2 JL10W1s have lived there happily. My days of living on the edge are over though. Without taking the center console out, it looks like there is not much usable space near the front of the center console in front or under the beverage holders for anything worth while.

Now I have to wonder - has anyone tried anything with the space BACK HERE?

The center tunnel space lends itself to a front firing 6.5 inch or possibly 8 inch sub, while either side of car you have room for a compact amplifier to clear the metal flip down seat support bar. Wire Mesh cages to keep the amps protected and ventilated?

Kicker makes a PX line of amplifiers for Powersport vehicles which run at 1ohm or lower:

PX Amplifiers | KICKER

as well as a line of shallow mount subwoofers.

The 6.5s only need 0.2 cubes and the 8-inch subs can see as little as 0.4 cubes. Not sure if there would be enough room to have a 6.5 inch sub under each passenger seat - but if so - amp(s) could probably fit along the center. These same 6.5s will work in free-air so they could become options in the rear doors or even the front doors.

So - anyone been down these paths before? The amps do not have an on-board power supply so I'm curious on real-world performance.

I can't comment on subs since I am running a 12" The Punch Audiophile in a ~1.5ft^3 sealed box (still plenty of room next to it).

For the amp thoug, I did this. You need to measure carefully and use a small 3 or 5 channel amp (class D is perfect for this) but you can hang the amp in the spair tire. With using the spair 3 times in the last year, I am glad I didn't ditch it!

I went to a local audio shop and they could install an amp in the rear passenger side where the cut out would be. (under the plastic) They also suggested a JL audio sub 10" does just fine. 800 for everything. I think the sub was only 299*
