Valve chatter? Am I imagining things?

Anyone experienced this with a 2011? I'm assuming the LMS recall was only for 09/10 cars? I've only got 2,000 miles on the car, did proper break-in, but the car seems noisy (sounds like valve noise) under acceleration, especially at low RPM. Am I just being paranoid?

The fit has more valve train noise than I'm happy with, even on a four banger, but I rationalize the resin valve cover and less sound insulation as the cause.

I have an 09 @24K miles. The recall lessened valve chatter for me but I think it was because they adjusted the valve clearance. It seems to be back to the level it was before the LMS change now, but maybe that's my in my head. Once it's warmed up it lessens a lot. I've chosen to ignore it; the power train warranty is pretty long.

No you're not imagining anything. The Fit does have a lot of valve chatter.
That being said, when I got my Fit, I thought it was too loud. I don't know if I have just adjusted, or it actually has gotten quiter, but it seemed to get a lot better about 10,000 miles into ownership.

Sometime after my 1st Oil Change it seemed to get significantly better, or I became use to the sound.

I do think a lot of it does have to do with the "smallness" of the vehicle and the design. The engine is very close to the cabin. When it strains on acceleration you will hear it...it's not a whisper quiet engine.

Interesting. It's not so much the 'volume' inside the cabin that concerns me, but the metal-on-metal noise...especially since it seems to have developed over the last 2k miles. I wouldn't be so concerned if they all did it when new.

Mine sounds similar and its red as well...coincidence? hmmmmm

My wifes BBP with 41K who had the recall done has more valve noise than when she brought it in but still less than mine with 7k on it

Just got mine done at Danbury Honda in CT. 54k, louder than it used to be, sounds like the clearances are on the looser side; just off idle it makes this great new "clacking" noise that it never used to. Got the passenger side engine mount replaced as well once (at Watertown), than the drivetrain flopped around in the engine bay because they forgot to tighten one of the fasteners to the timing cover... brought it back and they replaced the mount again with the timing cover, which now leaks oil badly. LOVIN IT. So pretty much whats going to happen is I'm gonna buy a Helms repair manual and start doing everything myself (I work at BMW as a mechanic) so I should be arright hopefully... haha. I dunno, I just am not to enthused with the whole ownership experience based on these crappy warranty repairs. Figured I would share.. how about everybody else? Good experiences, Bad?

Forum consensus: normal as can be. Although some would say there is something wrong. I got my valves lashed as a part of the recall and the sound got better for a few days, and now it's back. Either we are all fine, or all the engines are on a bee line to failure.

Wait, you found your engine mount was broken in the past?

My Fit has 80 000 kms on it and it is by far the quietest 4 cylinder car I have ever owned. I use Penzoil Platimum Syn. oil, maybe this helps. You honestly can not hear the motor run at idle.

weight matters not brand when it comes to valve tick..

My point was perhaps using Synthetic helps. The brand was not important.

What weight are you using? I have the same amount of tick on the 0w20 syn that I had on the 5w20 dino juice it came with.

I would wager a 5w30 of either type would be the ticket if you absolutely can't deal with the ticking. At least when warmed up.

Did you bring them to the dealership? if yes, did they did something with the
valve?

Not yet. A car with 2,000 miles shouldn't need a valve adjustment. I've put 100,000 miles on hondas and never had any valve noise. Assuming it's not just me being paranoid about driving a new car, This is really disappointing.

Yeah broke an engine mount...well 2 but anyways. I use 5w30 BMW oil (free, so you know) which is basically just castrol synthetic. After my lost motion spring recall was performed I have super loud valvetrain noise and I cannot decide if I should bring it back to the dealer I bought it from or the dealer that did the recall. Whacha think, all?
