Fit meets guard cable

Short version: lots of rain, highway that isn't designed to drain, hydroplaned, lost control, hit guard cable going about 60mph backwards. Nobody was hurt.

Any bets on what the repair estimate will be? I will post the official estimate on Friday when I receive it.

A few details:
  • muffler is trashed as you can see
  • catalytic converter is smashed in
  • the car was leaking gas
  • the rear right wheel will not turn
  • front bumper was slightly damaged by the towing company. It got pulled back from the car and separated visibly at the top seam. Not sure if it will need replacing.
  • no air bags deployed

That's quite a bit of damage. A good 4k or more to fix is my estimate.

More than $7k if done properly. The whole rear will need to be cut out and a new section welded in. I wouldn't accept any less. New doors as well. I wouldn't be surprised it if is totaled in all honesty even though it doesn't look totaled. Gambatte!!!

At least you or nobody else was injured.

That's US 64 on the Franklin/Nash county line. The state trooper and tow operator both independently said that the highway there isn't designed with the usual outward slope, so water pools very easily. They both said that there are accidents there almost every time it rains. Bummer!

I'm very curious to see if they total it. I think the fair market value should still be in the neighborhood of 14-15k, so that's definitely a lot of parts and labor before it could be called a total loss.

Sorry about the damage, glad everybody is OK, it must have been scary, I'm guessing it will cost around $7500 to fix.

I bet you it will be >$10k

If there is distortion in the roof or underbody it's totalled.

Otherwise, it looks like a $10k +/- job or so:

front fender
front bumper
2 doors
lower trim
quarter panel
tailgate
rear bumper
gas tank
rear axle assy
exhaust
whatever else that cable fubared

Glad you are ok!
