New 09 Fit from 03 Mini Cooper S
Hi, I'm new here and just purchased a 2009 Fit Sport MT this week. It replaces my 2003 Mini Cooper S. I loved the Mini but at 155,000 miles it was costing far too much to keep it, so I have come back to Honda. Here is my car history:
1977 Honda Accord - my high school car, was a lot of fun, fortunately low in h.p. so I lived through crazy driving phase
1979 Mazda RX7 - my first car as fun object, bought it in Hawaii when I was stationed in Pearl Harbor, kept it 10 years until it was stolen
1985 VW GTI - got a good deal on it, but was most unreliable machine I have owned
1991 Ford Taurus SHO - test drove it and bought it, only snap decision purchase I have ever done, marvelous Yamaha engine deserved more reliable package
1990 Honda Civic Si - originally my wife's car I took it at 60K miles when I got rid of SHO. I drove it till 300k miles, had DC Sports Header, Cat-back, Intake and Superchip. Was a blast to drive, beat it unmercifully and it always delivered. I really miss it and was main reason for the 09 Fit Sport purchase, it reminds me of the Civic.
1999 VW GTI VR6 - got it after I had sworn off VW's for life, lol. It was very nice drive, quiet, powerful. It had terrible stock suspension so I put on H&R springs and Bilstien shocks. Lowered it probably 1". What a difference that made, VWOA should really be ashamed the way they dummy down the suspensions for North American market.
2003 Mini Cooper S - Everything I think a car should be, small, quick, great handling, practical (hatch backs are the best) and decent fuel mileage. I put on cat-back, cold air intake, and smaller supercharger pulley. It will be missed, I am now in advanced stages of Horsepower withdrawal. It started costing too much to keep. It was literally in the shop on a monthly basis.
2009 Fit Sport non nav. MT - really digging this car. Like I said, it is an incarnation of the 90 Civic Si. I had purchased 16 x 7 wheels (Discount Tire brand MB Seven spoke) and 195/55 - 16 (Falken ZEIX-912 all season) tires for the Mini to improve the ride quality. I kept them and put them on the Fit. They fit great and don't look too bad.
And complying with the #1 rule for all threads, here are some pics.

Welcome to FF. Nice collection of very reputable rides. You drove the crap out of your Mini I see. Nice pictures. Especially the last one. I would love to meet the moron who drives a land rover in a fashion that cracks rims that bad. (Epic Fail)

I rationalized the Fit purchase as saving money in the long run, btw got a solid 38 mpg my first tank (calculated, the trip comp was optiomistic at 40.5). I drive 130 miles a day, hopefully I have another 300k Honda on my hands. Really wanted to do the Genisis coupe base model but with 18" wheels I would be spending $1200 plus a year in replacement tires.
Yes it was a departure from what I usually like, but the Yamaha 24v V6 was one of the best power plants ever made, IMO. If Ford had half a brain it would have been a 2nd gen Probe SHO, Contour SHO, etc.
Lol, yes all of our Honda's have been Red, my wife drove an 86 Civic Si before we got her the 90 Civic Si. It was hard decision, the Bright Blue looked great and the Orange was looking good also.
Ordered a Cargo Cover for $130 from Majestic Honda - The Internet's #1 Honda Automotive Parts Store. I will be hard wiring the V1 sometime soon, I am holding off a bit until I see how the CIPA auto-dimming mirror install goes for Caliban10010.

Damn, just got the TPMS light, didn't realize it required sensor. The Mini uses wheel rotation speed for low tire warning. If one tire spins faster in relation to all others it is low and the light comes on.

nice car! and yeah, honda's tpms system could be better. the wheel speed sensor makes a lot of sense. guess you'll be transfering the sensors if you really care about the tpms.

i had almost the same thing in mind when i first drove my 09 Sport MT...it was the current iteration of my once-beloved '86 Civic Si. for your sake i hope honda (and all Japanese makes for that matter) has figured out how to make red paint last as long as the vehicle. and it is ONLY RED PAINT that has the problem!
but anyway, yeah, those suckas that take one of the most-competent off-road vehicles ever and throw fat rims with low-profile tires on them have more money than sense and deserve the headache of busted rims.

I agree, I came from a Mazdaspeed3 and the stock tires were an outrageous price for 4. I had to replace a set of tires at 13,000 miles, and I drove the car very mildly with constant rotating.
I am already seeing the savings with the Fit. Much lower car payment and much better premiums on insurance as well. Plus I no longer curse at the pumps anymore while I chug premium fuel. I do however miss the power, but I at one point owned an 89 Si and absolutely loved the car and the fit is very much in the spirit of that vehicle.
I am glad to see that I was not the only one who "stepped down"! I got alot of perplexed looks when I pulled up at my office in my Fit as opposed to the speed3.
