Confirmed: 17x7.5 ET 45 wrapped in 215/40/17 fits, no rubbing
I just mounted a set this morning, and the front is pretty flushed maybe even a mil out, and the rear still has room...Im lowered about 1.5 on Tanabe springs ,all around...I think the key is the ET of 45, I was worried about the 215 part but seems to fit nicely...I will post picture when I can...I did aobut 45 mins of freeway driving some parts pretty rough, and made 3-4 Uturns and a few hard turns at 45 ish and no rubbing as of yet....

yeah it does look like there is more gap in the pic but in real life its not that much, I almost feel like I could do a 45 but I think that might be pushing it... on another note it drives great...feels more stable some how...Im quite happy, maybe later I'll do an adjustable coilover and push it down a bit.. may throw a spacer kit in the rear to get it to pop out a bit more...
on another note, Im selling the exact wheel in the classifieds but they are polished(I think it would look good on black)

yes sir 215/40/17 Protenza I think the back can be pushed out 3-5mm imho, for my taste the front is perfect, but more aggressive modders may want less gap, but at that point you would probably have to run a camber kit, as Im pretty sure it will rub. Ive spent many a years rolling side ways over speed bumps and driveways so the less I have to do it the better
they are Motoforge 17x7.5 et45, very small company they have recently been making alot of 5 lugs at 19 inches(ebay), extremely hard to find but when you do, the wheels are forged at 15 pounds per...
If you can find them they do take a small type of Tuner lugs, hence my sale of the rays lugs...the holes drilled were too small for the standard rays lugs...

anyone know where I can can get higher quality small diameter Tuner lugs? I was lucky the tire shop had a set but they are chromish, looks alright but I'd want nicer ones, and if possible black in color? TIA

Alot of factors play into it, your suspension, the tires(some are more rounded side wall, and some are more squared off), to be honest I went into it with an educated guess, I did a bit of math and felt I was ok, could have easily been a waste of some money had it not fit...here are some factors you may want to think on:
1. suspension, are you on an agressive drop? stock? you may want to drop your car first
2. offset of the wheels...so far from what Ive read 42 plus is the safe way, and I have heard people taking off the 42 et wheels after a drop as the drop was too low.
3. the tires you are using, once you are set on the other factors are the tires you want more of a squared off shape? it may not be an issue if you are running a really high et, but at 40-42 et and a low drop it might be the difference of rub or no rub.
Last and biggest one, be ready to be disappointed. Modding is not exact, a lot of educated guesses are used...ask a lot of questions...but don't listen to hear say... there is a lot of banter on the internet...confirm with people that its been done...best way to save money. OR if you gamble it, make educated guesses as to the outcome, blindly doing something makes you loose money fast.
hope this helps
BTW victor the 215's have ample side wall protection of a 7.5 wheel...not really sure you need to go 225...

wider is better =) right now i am stock but when i get coilovers i doubt i will lower it much just want a stiffer setup so i dont rub. i know that 225 fit 7.5 rims i was just curious as why people dont use that size instead on 7 in rims the max is 215

looking at it now I bet I might have been able to pull off 225, but I got these tires cheap from someone...so I went with it
