Plastic Hood Underside Tray?

I've never actually noticed this piece under my car hood, but apparently the dealer sucks and didn't fix it and left it like this: IMGUR

Is this hood part necessary? Does anyone know the replacement grommets for it?

From what I've gathered, it would appear that yes, it guides air to the box, but whether or not that's critical is not clear. Bernardi doesn't appear to carry the hood part anyway

Ideas?

Check Amazon or Ebay for Honda plastic clips/pins/bolts/screws, whatever they are called. Should find them in packs of 10, 20 or more.

That duct helps the engine get a much better supply of air, especially when it really needs it the most: at high RPM's and when VTEC kicks in

But if you drive like a grandma/grandpa until you get it fixed it will be fine. Just don't expect your little 1.5L engine to perform as well as usual. You can remove the duct entirely and your car will be fine.

However if you're like most people and drive an automatic, use the AC a lot, need to accelerate fast to keep up with traffic and will sometimes carry a full car, then you should definitely get the duct fixed up.

Go back to dealer and have them stick in the few clips they left off. Or any parts store will carry them. Just take one in to make sure get the same size.

In the service manual this is the "cooling duct" on p. 20-153. Took me a little while to find so maybe this will help others. Clip part number is 91501S04003.

This is EXACTLY what it looks like under my hood; it is even hanging by the same one pin!!!

I went to the parts store and was sold some rubber pins for the bumper that look exactly the same and while I can push it through the rubber hole it won't fit the hole in the metal hood.

Guess I'm going to have to go to a dreaded dealer. =((((

Thanks

I used generic plastic "Christmas tree" fasteners with mine and it's stayed in for a few years now. They're maybe 2 bucks for a pack of four, and can get them anywhere, even Lowe's and home Depot.

Mine Looked same but I have additional question.
Does that cause rattling noise when going in low speed in like parking lots?
It sounds as if one of the stud/bolt that holds my tire is loose so it makes clunking noise but it doesn't make that sound when I'm at about 30mph or higher

Studs are pressed into the hub, those would not rattle. Probably should insure your lugs are tight.

I have noticed a little "drrrrr" sound usually when I am accelerating after being still, say at a red light, or from a lower speed. I'm thinking it has something to do with my transmission. A light came on some time back, my mechanic reset it and said if it came back on to bring it back but it hasn't. But that noise is worrisome.

Could be end links. They wear out first in front suspension. I had mine replaced last years.

You use the terms rattling and clunking in the question in your post. Yes this plastic duct can rattle with only one clip holding it on to the underside of the hood and the rest hanging down into the engine compartment. If the noise you're hearing is more of a clunk, I'd check for looseness in your drive axles. Reach up under the car on both sides and check each axle for looseness. Grab the axles in the middle and lift and twist the center of each axle and see if there's looseness or clunking in them. Each axle has cv joints in them at both ends that can wear out.

HI,

Thank you for the responses. It's not a rattle or a clunk and I just had the tires rotated and checked underneath. I'm pretty sure it's not the CV joints; been there, done that. =(( But it's time I get the Eggman back to the mechanic for a major checkup ....they haven't seen each other in a long time!
