Airbag Recall on 2009-2014 Fit
#403
Alright so here's my experience about the airbag recall/rental
I went into Showcase Honda where I bought my car
I rolled up to the service area ( I got the guy who always helps me but somehow seems to forget me)
and I'm like "I'm here for my airbag recall"
Service advisor: Oh ok lets see what that is about
Goes inside and he starts looking over the paper I got in the mail about it
Service advisor: Yes it does look like you have a recall, I will go ahead and order you parts
"Shouldn't I be worried about it exploding"
Service advisor: Oh no, that would only happen back east where they have extreme humidity, Az is too hot and dry for that
"that seems pretty scary"
Service advisor: Dont worry I wouldnt want anything to happen to my customers, as soon as I get that part in I'll give you a call ( Updates my info)
"So your saying if the air bag kills me, my insurance will make sure I'm covered although I still drove the car knowing there was a recall"
Service advisor: Well if you were in any front end accident where the airbag goes off, you would probably get killed if the airbag had to go off
"WTF. No I wouldnt"
Finalizes paper and walks back with it
Service advisor: A lot of people have come in and chose to drive the car with the recall, it should be in sometime soon
"I drive my car like 3000 miles a month, so your saying I should take that risk?"
Service advisor: Umm if you want we can get you a rental
"Will it be a honda, or a Honda fit"
Service advisor: NO( points to his hertz business cards on his desk" It will be whatever they have
"Well yeah I rather have a rental as long as it wont be worse MPG than what I get in my fit"
Service advisor: Ok I'll have to redo the paperwork
(Hands me the form saying I agree to not drive the car and will keep it at home, and ask about mileage I say around 66000, He puts 75000 LMAO. Then gives a call to Hertz to come get me but its down the street and my bf is already meeting me so we go to Hertz.)
Go up to Hertz, she takes my info and explains a few things.
I will need to have insurance, they offer it at 22$ with full coverage and gap a day or 9$ a day if my insurance covers me and this basically covers gap if I am in an accident. I decline both after calling my insurance. After speaking to Safe-auto( my insurance) they tell me that any car I am driving regardless of how long I am covered by liability. So I obviously am going to go with that. I dont need to buy the rental coverage because I am not going thru them to get the rental.
I do give them a card to put on file (She said 50-100 but I still dont see a charge)
Then she gives me option of cars... Kia rio sedan, Nissan Versa Hatch or Sedan and I go with the hatch. Finalize the paperwork and I am good to go.
Key points to know
*Honda is covering the cost of the vehicle, not the insurance. So when you call your insurance company make sure you explain the exact situation because my csr almost thought I was needing to add the rental option on it
*Make sure to ask about charges in case you damage the car. Such as the windshield. If I cracked it, it was 150$ to replace ( your insurance may cover it if u have glass) or 35$ to repair thru them.
*They offer good rates if you return the car with an empty tank of gas
*All I provided was the recall notice
I do feel like they weren't going to offer the rental until I started probing so I would go that route if you are too scared of being direct and wanting a rental
Thats all I can think of for now. Best of luck, I am enjoying the Versa. Sadly it gets better mpg than the fit lol

As far as replacement parts go, I too have noticed that Crv's are slowly disappearing from the recall lot, but no Fits yet. I think I'm number 2 Fit to be fixed at my dealer, so hopefully that means sooner than later for me, but who knows. I asked just to clarify, and yes the Crv replacement parts are different than Fit replacement parts.

Where did you hear/see Fall 2016?

I have the same thing. Silver with just over 30k miles now. Does your horn & cruise control work? I ask because neither of mine do.

Side note, I'm at my 60 day mark this friday so I have to return my current rental (20150 hyundai elantra). It would be a decent A to B car or first time driver.
I requested a Versa Note and they said they should have one for me. Not having a hatch has been weird especially when needing the cargo space. Hopefully I'm not in this rental another 60 days but hey I've saved my GE from nearly 2k miles haha.

Fit recall
I have 2_dogs who go everywhere with me in my 2013 Honda fit. With the airbag recall I will be not allowed to bring my dogs in the rental car. Wish they had pet friendly rental car options

I got my "new" rental today. 2015 Focus hatchback with 38XX miles on it. Still has that new car smell haha.
So far, it is nice. Back up camera is a bit much for me, but having bluetooth audio is nice.
As for airbag updates, as I was getting my rental the couple in front of me BOTH had fits, one was the Electric and the other a gas version. Basically they have solar panels on their house which charges their EV fit, and when they were getting the rental they complained about having to pay for gas lol.
The advisor said they are getting airbags for other models in little by little. Namely the accord has been coming in.
Hopefully I'm not in a rental for another 60 days.

You know they have people who clean the cars upon return? A rubber pet hair removal brush from Walmart along with a shop vac and some spray APC will clean the car.

I know that if you rent from the Honda dealer, dogs aren't allowed, but Enterprise allows them. I take my little dog with me whenever I can.

The last few days have certainly confirmed that I'm in the High Absolute Humidity zone. Not only are the Smoky Mountains smokey with haze, all of western North Carolina is in a slight fog. If the temps carry on like this, it's going to be a broiling summer.
I've been driving a Hyundai Tucson for the last several days, and it's a horrible gas hog. I'm trading it in tomorrow for something reasonable. All of the Enterprise locations around here have been out of small cars, but supposedly they'll have one on hand for me tomorrow.

Same exact MPG as my fit, but more power.

I took back a gas guzzling SUV and drove off in a brand new Mitsubishi Mirage. A toy car! It'll be great around town, but I'll switch it out when I go on my road trip later this summer. Every day, I miss my Fit more...(

Hey all, just wanted to share some good news with you. Got a call from my dealer today and they have the parts in! They are towing the car to the dealer and it will be ready for pickup at the end of the day
