Cargo Floor - seems flimsy
Hey all. I just bought my first Fit today - 2009 Fit Sport. Love it already! I have a quick question about the floor in the cargo area (panel hiding spare tire). I opened it up and it seems really cheap and flimsy; maybe 1/4" particle board material with carpet. Like I wouldn't be able to put anything very heavy in the middle or it will collapse. Is mine maybe missing something or is everyone's like this? Ideas to strengthen a little? Thanks!

Here's the thing... on its own it feels flimsy but when you lay it down where it's supposed to go and it's braced by the spare tire compartment, it's totally fine. Get the cargo tray if you can. It's easier to clean!

I havent had a issue with mine, as long as the spare is underneath it doesnt seem to cave in or anything. I sleep in my fit during lunch breaks and with my 185lb butt over it it seems to be holding up just fine. The weak spot for me is dont step over the part with the flaps that cover the gap between the back seats and floor board as it doesnt seem to hold well with just a piece of foam block supporting underneath.

Mine came with foam blocks glued to the underside which sit on the spare tire. It flexes a bit between the blocks but it can handle plenty of load. I regularly carry 2-300 lb of livestock feed sacks back there with no trouble.

it's funny you mention the floor liner being flimsy. I've always felt that way too about some of my prior cars. I was at the chicago auto show the other year with my buddy and we were both in the market at that time, and the more we inspected the cars, the more we got obsessed about comparing very minor details. What you see in the Fit is pretty standard for all cars, the only mid/lower market level cars we saw that had anything stiffer/nicer for a trunk liner was actualy Kia (IIRC).

I miss the folding-out table from my CR-V. It was way better than the crappy panel in the Fit. I have the factory rubber cargo liner (this one: ) but it doesn't help when you drop toolboxes or hardcases on it. I might replace it with a sheet of Lexan or some heavier duty plywood. Mine's not destroyed, but it's warped around the middle -- you can see where the tire was supporting it.

cargo floor IS flimsy
...at least when subjected to constant abuse from up to 5 dogs at a time!
I previously had the cargo area lined with a remnant carpet piece which worked pretty well, but it got pretty filthy and eventually got unmentionable dog-related stains that caused me to leave it in a parking lot dumpster and flee.
While researching what sort of cleanable, not-likely-to-be-chewed mat or liner to get next the dogs I walk had a few days with only blankets and towels back there. They quickly managed to completely destroy the little flaps that cover the hinges of the rear seats when folded flat (anyone know what those are called and if I can replace them?) And the area over the spare tire is cracked and ready to cave in!
Now I need to line it with something sturdy enough to protect their paws from the ditch/exposed metal. Lesson learned.

I constantly hear creaks and groans when my dog is in the back, and he doesn't seem to confident with it under his feet. He's a small-ish dog too at 35lbs. I'd love to see a completely flat cover that would stiffen up the entire area when seats are folded forward.
