2009 Purchase: What to look for?
I am closing in on a deal for a 2009 Sport model, automatic with just over 90,000 miles from the original owner. What kinds of things should I be asking the owner or looking for as I inspect this car? Were there some particular recalls I should ask about? Was the 2009 plagued by any issues that were later fixed on the '10, '11, '12, '13? The car is reported as accident free and in excellent condition. Your help is greatly appreciated. I know my '07 in and out, but not the second generation.

The lost-motion-spring recall (replaces springs in the valvetrain that could break and grenade the engine) is the only recall. This was in 2010 (List of Service Bulletins sticky in this forum). If this hasn't been done, do immediately. This also will pay for most of the 100K maintenance (see below) as it includes adjusting the valves.
That sticky is a good place to start reading up on your acquisition.
The 09's have a greater incidence of A/C failure according to consumer reports, anecdotal accounts here, and personal experience. Make sure it cools well (or as good as a Fit cools).
Major maintenance (valve adjustment, plugs) is due at 100K (approximate, the MM calls for it). Not that this should have been done already, but unless you're handy it'll run $400+ (guestimate).
It should have had at least one transmission ATF drain fill done already. If not schedule this. The newer Honda fluid (DW-1) that came out in 2011(?) performs better than the factory fluid: smoother shifts. This is about an $80 svc at the dealer ($40 easy DIY if you're into it).

Thanks very much Steve. That was a big help. I had actually forgotten about the icing issue with the A/C. All I can say at this point is that the person who owned the car has been deployed overseas and they need to buy another car at their duty station. So I can surmise that they are not "dumping" the car due to some particular issue. I'm actually thrilled about the lost motion spring in that a free valve adjustment can be had as well. I had to negotiate my valve adjustment on my GD and it cost me $250, down from an initial estimate from the dealer of over $400.
