keys and key cylinder wear

Hi,

Recently I had my trunk key cylinder wear completely to the point that I had to replace it. My keys show signs of wear, and now my ignition key is sticking. I'm astonished. I have never, ever seen anything like this with any other car I've owned.

Obviously the ignition key is a big deal. Has anyone else seen this?

My five year old key looks used, but not worn. Can't speak for the trunk cylinder, I don't have one on my sport.
