HID Projector headlights

So i know there are alot of diy instructions on the site here, but I was curious if anyone has tried the HID Headlight Projector Kit below? If so how well did it work.

Another thing is that I have a 2013 fit and these headlights say they only fit 2009-2010 fits. I thought all of the 2008 and up fits had the same headlights. Am I wrong? Thanks for the help!!

There were a number of those types of headlights that came out in 2010. And it looks like they just haven't bothered to update the compatible years.

I have a pair of dual headlights that are mostly similar, but it has fitment issues (two upper mounts don't match). The best answer I can come up with is that it was designed for EuDM/JDM, not USDM.

I haven't really found anything about folks getting anything that really fit.

I'm not saying that the one you're looking at will have that problem, but I wouldn't be surprised if it did.

i've seen a bunch of ebay auctions selling the mounting arms for the headlights. i wonder if they can be removed and replaced with the USDM mounts.

Dual halos and the led strip are a bit much, no?

Ever considered retrofitting? You can get a decent morimoto kit that clips onto the bulb mount, so you won't even need to realign your beams. You'll get far better light output too.

Plus you won't have fitment issues.

Ive seen and thought about doing a retrofit, but I am pretty weary about taking the lens of the headlight off. I am always worried about wrecking it ya know. But I would still consider it. Could you link the best DIY tutorial? I am a big fan of detailed pics.

Sure I understand the hesitation, but it's not so bad once you get started.

Here's a couple DIYs on this site

Ordered my projectors, and now I am thinking about painting the reflectors black. Any one know if I need to use special paint for heat or anything like that?

So got the projectors installed, but unfortunately one of the bulbs and ballasts are bad so my car isnt running 100% yet.

To be honest I am not super impressed with the projectors. I got the 50w 5000k kit and it doesnt really seem that bright. I had 35w 6000k HID in my Ford Focus' reflectors and it seemed much much brighter, even taking into account the glare and only having one headlight. Just the road brightness was better on the Focus. Maybe I am being to hasty in my analysis since its missing one headlight, but still I feel like 50w HID bulbs in projectors should seem brighter. Still waiting on TRS to get back to me about sending some new parts to me.... Once everything is resolved I am hoping to do a DIY writeup.

One thing I think people forget to mention in their write up is that you need to remove the bumper to get to the headlights. For me that kidna sucked, i know its just some body pins that need pulling, but still it might deter some people from doing it.

Take some output shots when you have everything running.

Yeah taking off the bumper is definitely scary the first time, but it's not bad if you take your time and do it the right way.

I'd say the real scary part is baking the headlight. Still makes me nervous when I do it lol.

Baking the headlight surprisingly was the easiest part for me. TRS said 270 degrees for 7 min, worked perfectly. Also having a second person there made the process really easy, I would say its almost necessary.

what projectors did you end up with? MD2S 2.0 was my first retrofit. it was great at first but got tired of the overly bright foreground and lack of distance pretty quickly. then I did OEM FX with clear lenses and those were fantastic until one of my bowls burned out. I'm currently now using MH1 6.0 and they're great for being a mini with aftermarket bulbs. I'm reading good things about the much improved MD2S 3.0 and might switch it up to that if they're that much better than my current setup.

also, running 50-55w ballasts are probably hurting your distance vision. it always results in a brighter foreground that restricts your pupils from dilating wide enough for you to see further up ahead.

I ended up using D2S 2.0s. For me the foreground isnt bright enough, and they are hardly lighting anything up in the distance. Like I was saying I am pretty disappointed so far. I was considering the H1's but I like the OEM lights of the D2S, plus I have a phobia of trying brand new things. Never had good luck being the first few people to try something.

had i known you were getting those, i'd have done my best to sway you away from them. they're a step up from halogens but they're not great when you've experienced the other options. like you, i bought them because of the ability to use OEM bulbs. but the most accurate statement i've read about them was "it doesn't matter if you're using the best available bulbs if the optical design holds the performance back". on the other hand, i was very skeptical about using the MH1 6.0 but they've really been great especially for what they are...aftermarket projectors that take only aftermarket bulbs. they're so much wider, brighter and have much better distance than the MD2S 2.0. and the MD2S 3.0 are supposed to be close to the FX-R in performance...so that's definitely worth looking at when you're hungry enough for your next retro.
