Windshield appearance question

I just had the windshield replaced on my 2010 Fit. When they were done I noticed that the gasket at the top sticks up, it sort of looks like the rain gutters on older cars. I mentioned this and the guy said that's what they look like, I just never looked carefully at my old windshield. I said I've washed the car a dozen times and didn't remember anything not being flush.

I looked at another Fit and it looked the same but the owner wasn't around so I couldn't ask her if that were the original windshield or a replacement. I looked at two other (non-Fit) Hondas and the windshields looked flush.

Did they do it wrong? Should I insist they come back and install it differently?

That doesn't look sticking up, it looks flush, just with a channel between gasket and windshield. Mine is higher than windshield by a bit more than the thickness of the tip of my car key.

That doesn't sound like reason for having them redo it. It just sounds like they used an aftermarket gasket set rather than Honda's (which is probably overpriced).

Who did it? Pics?

It will make it more annoying to wash the car and it should've been done right.

Safelite did it. It sticks up 1/2 cm. Which might not sound like much but at high speeds it's little things like that, that disrupt air flow over the car and increase the drag coefficient.

My windshield is a safelite replacement as well, and mine sticks up a bit too. Doesn't bother me, I got an amazing deal on my replacement, only cost me 273 dollars, including tax and having the guy show up.

My price even better- in NY insurance companies give the option of zero deductible on glass so I didn't do anything but make a couple of phone calls and leave the car in my driveway.

Seems to me that if their gasket doesn't fit as well as OEM they shouldn't be using it.

Yeah, that doesn't look good. I'd be more concerned about leakage and wind noise though. But I think that's as good as it's going to get with an aftermarket gasket; I don't think it's installer error.

Damn that's a clean car.

Hmm, Safelite did the replacement in my GD3, and used an aftermarket gasket and it looks the same. Or I just haven't noticed. My windshield gasket isn't something I look at too often.

The honda gasket set is 64.60 full retail (the glass being another $631).

I remember when I was working at a Honda dealership we subbed-out windshield replacements just because oem is super expensive. Customers rarely complain about gasket fitments unless it's sticking out pretty bad or leaking.

I suggest buying the oem Honda gasket if it really bothers you and just get it replaced by the same guys that installed you windshield.

They said it was because it was done outside in the cold and the adhesive dries too fast. Took it to their shop and they redid it, and it doesn't stick up like that anymore.

mental note; next time I break glass, get fixed indoors. And Safelite stands by their work.
