LSD for GE8?

LSD for GE8?
There were some threads, but I couldn't find any with a definite Yes or No answer on whether LSD's made for GD would directly fit into a GE8 or not.
Anyone confirmed whether the Mfactory or Quaife LSD for GD fits their GE8?

I don't believe so. MFactory doesn't list the GE8 as an application for the LSD and I think they used to, they have also changed their close ratio gear list and it no longer includes the GE8, so they must have learned something.
Cusco has an LSD for 5MT GE8.

emailed quaife, so waiting for answers. I have ATS carbon 2way lsd on my s2k and love it, but the clutch plate chattering (however minor) is not something i'd want on a daily driver

So, this thread is pretty old, but I'm here to pump some new life into it.
Yesterday I reached out to MFactory about their helical LSD for the GE8. I have read on Fitfreak as well as other sites that their helical LSD (part# MF-TRS-05L15A) is not compatible with the USDM GE8 because it uses a different speedo assembly that will not work with the USDM GE8.
This morning, the CEO of MFactory himself, Stephen Yeh, took the time to reply to my inquiry directly. check out what he has to say:

Hello. I have a question regarding your helical LSD for the GE8 Honda
Fit. I have heard rumors on the internet and some automotive forums that
your helical LSD, part # MF-TRS-05L15A is not compatible with the USDM
Honda Fit. Is this true? Something about the speedo assembly?
Thank you for any information you can provide.

I have a MF-TRS-05L15A sitting at home on my work bench that I purchased about 2 years ago in 2014 but never installed it. Over the weekend I decided to install it on a spare tranny along with a new Clutch Master clutch because of clutch related issue at 167K miles on the original clutch. It turn out my CMC was bad. Well, after installing the 4.9 final drive gear and about to install the OEM carrier bearing, I found the OEM carrier bearing, 91006-PPS-003 is too big at 40mm. The Mfactory LSD shaft diameter is 35mm. Today I reached out to Mfactory to see what they could do to help. They asked me to send pictures of the LSD with measurement, OEM carrier bearing, stock differential and original box.

Synchrotech Transmissions, an authorized Team MFactory dealer got back to me after I provided original proof of purchase from March 2014. They have Team MFactory permission to fix the problem with my LSD. MFactory shipped out the wrong LSD from Taiwan. My LSD is probably for a non USA Honda FIT GE because carrier bearing for Asia Honda FIT GE is 35mm. USA Honda FIT GE uses 40mm carrier bearing.

Team MFactory agreed to have Synchro Tech Trans swapped the LSD casing from a D-Series LSD. So now I have no problem with the OEM carrier bearing. However the speedometer drive gear does not fit the D-Series LSD casing. Our speedometer drive gear inner diameter is ~79.8 mm and the OEM open differential diameter for the speedometer drive gear is 80.01 mm. It is a tight but will fit with a propane touch to the speedometer drive gear and a quick tap with a hammer for mounting to the open differential. No hydraulic pressed need. The problem is the MFactory LSD is 80.81 mm making it 0.78 mm or 0.03 inch too large.
The two choices that I see are find a compatible speedometer drive gear for the D-Series or have a machine shop shaved down .03 inches from the MFactory LSD. I Emailed Synchro Tech Trans on which speedometer drive gear I could used. I missed beating on my Honda FIT. The only saving grace is I get to drive my wife's Madza MX-5 NC2 and take out the E46 ZCP garage queen.

Evidently, according to Michael Yep, Team MFactory senior executive online sale admitted that R&D for the Honda FIT GE was done on the JDM/Asian model. The market for US Honda FIT GE is extremely limited. That is probably the reason I am having so much problems with LSD that was sold to me. Hell...it make no sense for Team MFactory to sell a LSD to the US market without sufficient R&D on US spec Honda FIT GE. I am told to work with SynchronTech to sort things out.

Hi Steven,
from the email it sounds like the M Factory HQ will never have or don't want to developed the USDM version of this LSD, is this correct?
I hope SynchronTech will refund you because they advertise/sell you the LSD for USDM Honda Fit.

Who knows what politic goes on within Team MFactory organization. But I believe most of the problems with US Spec Honda FIT GE LSD have been anticipated. Someone probably know how to fix them. I am just pissed because Team MFactory was not very forth coming about their LSD for the US Spec Honda Fit GE. If I knew that R&D was performed on JDM/Asian Honda Jazz I would not have made the purchase. Now I have to bark at Synchro Tech Trans even though they was not a US distributor back in March 2014.

Round 2. The D-Series LSD case swapped is on it way back to SynchroTech. According to David Henson, SynchroTech owner there is a later design LSD for USDM spec GE8/D17. David is 100% sure it would fit based on pictures of OEM open differential that I Emailed him. Hmm . . . .
Supposedly Michael Yip at Team MFactory has agreed to reimburse me on shipping. I kinda of wonder if he would keep his words.

When I got home from work, the MFactory Helical LSD for a Honda D17 part number MF-TRS-05D17 was waiting for me. David Henson at SynchroTech transmission assured me that it would work. Man true to his word. Here is a photo next to a stock open differential with the stock speedometer drive gear on the MFactory LSD. Now I have to get busy putting my car back together.
Yeah, I also need to chase after Michael Yip about shipping charges.

Spend about 1/2 hour pressing the bearing and bolting the 4.928 final ring gear. Everything fits fine. I need to take measurement for the differential shim size and order it from my local Honda dealership. Two day ago I dropped by my local Honda dealership and was told me most shim are in west coast warehouse. It will take about 1 week once I placed the order for the shim. Yeah, waiting for parts really sucks.
