Fit/Civic MPG

Earlier this week I was at the Honda dealership to get my air-conditioning system worked on.

While there and looking around at the new cars it just kills me to see that the civic beats the fit by about 5 miles per gallon on the highway. How does this happen? The civic has a larger engine. Just curious here.

Tall final drive and better aerodynamics are the main reasons. The tall back of the Fit creates a bit of drag (you can tell the amount of air swirling back there by how quickly it gets dirty).

It doesnt beat by 5mpg.

2009 R18 automatic civic bought by my buds wife gets only about 1mpg better on highway.

Reason is because our small torqueless wonder struggles ot accelerate on the highway COMPARED to the civic. My mpg gauge reads 20mpg at only a slight hill, let alone accelerating to pass people and such. At a constant speed, no wind, no hill, I think we would get about 2-3mpg better. We are much lighter!!

Check out Fuelly.com

2013 Fit averages 33.7mpg
2013 Civic, with the Hybrid model included, averages 34.7mpg

You could call real world mpg for the Fit and Non-Hybrid Civic the same. Don't sweat the 5mpg difference.

I really like the way those black and white seats look, looks great. Are those the classio covers? How much $$ and how difficult to install if you did it yourself? My 2012 is red. I don't think white would go with that though.

The seat covers are in fact Clazzio Covers. Black with Red stitching would go well with your car. Last I checked, Bean Garage (the only retailer you should consider using) sells them for $270 for the full PVC (Vinyl, not leather, btw) set.

Send an e-mail to spencer@beangarage.com to see what they have in stock. I swear he said he had that exact combo (Black/Black/Red) in stock a week or so ago...

The install is easy, although it will involve some trial and error. You can put them on, but chances are you will want them to look a bit more snug, so you'll mess with them a bit more. It isn't difficult, it will probably just take a bit longer than you think.
