Hows your math? Figure mpg.
I am usually good with math, but this has me puzzled.
I picked up my new Fit m/t today. It had to be located and had 140 miles on it.
The avg. mpg. meter said 32.1mpg.
I then drove it 20 miles, at about 40-50 mph, with about 8 traffic light stops.
At the end of the 20 mile trip, the odometer read 160 miles, and the mpg. meter said 33.3 mpg.
How do I figure out the mpg. I averaged, on the 20 trip?

ok here's some algebra. may not be accurate.
total trip:
160 miles / x gallons = 33.3 mpg
x = 4.8 gallons consumed for 160 miles
trip A:
140 miles / x gallons = 32.1 mpg
x = 4.36 gallons
Trip B = Total Gallons - Trip A Gallons = 4.8 - 4.36 = 0.44 gallons
Trip B MPG = 20 miles / 0.44 gallons = 45.45 mpg
total trip:
160 miles / x gallons = 33.3 mpg
x = 4.8 gallons consumed for 160 miles
trip A:
140 miles / x gallons = 32.1 mpg
x = 4.36 gallons
Trip B = Total Gallons - Trip A Gallons = 4.8 - 4.36 = 0.44 gallons
Trip B MPG = 20 miles / 0.44 gallons = 45.45 mpg
