Metal clinging/dragging sound at low speed/1st gear

Recently I have the oddest sound coming from what sounds like my driver front side. It sounds like a piece of metal that's hanging down and dragging the pavement. So it hops and skips, just like metal dragging the pavement hitting different stuff. Only there is nothing hanging down under my car. I just got done looking underneath to see if it was something not dragging the ground but a drivetrain component. Nothing. I don't know if it's tranny trouble or what. Anyone got any ideas?

Put the car in reverse and drive 50 feet or so. If it's just a rock or something stuck between the rotor and the rotor shield, it might dislodge itself this way.

Or it might be the rotor shield itself contacting the rotor. If that's the case, you can just reach in there with your hand and bend it away a bit. It's really flexible. Don't do that immediately after driving though, it'll be hot. This is another way to dislodge any debris that's stuck in there.

It's a sport auto.

As for the rock. It does it forward and reverse. I was going to say it might be something contacting the rotor shield as plinging that with my hand seems to make a similar noise. I will have to pull the wheels and look. It did seem to start happening around the time I got my last inspection so maybe they screwed the rotor shield up.

I am so glad you posted this, I have the same exact issue as you. It sounds like a dragging crunch sound. Its right usually when I drive in my car if my car has been sitting for a while. I hear it right at first gear, and at the end of second and maybe third. I thought it was my HID cables hitting the fan in the engine but they were cleared from that. I'm not sure what it is..

I am driving a 2010 GE automatic.

Check out this thread and Steve's post.

https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/2nd-...ml#post1062266

I have the noise Steve describes in that post. He said it sounded like: "Radio and heater fan off it sounds almost like a heat shield vibrating."

It only happens when car is sitting and cold. Radio has to be off to hear it. When it warms up, it goes away. Not sure if it's the same symptoms the OP is experiencing. My car is running great, so doubt it's something that will be a problem. It may be something normal to the car. Who knows, but it is kind of annoying.
