Intake Systems
What in your opinion is the best sounding, highest HP gain and if possible MPG gain Intake System would you recommend for a 2010 GE8? Whether it be short ram, cold air or just an added dam let your opinion be heard!
I have been checking out the T1R Intake with the venturi effect but it seems like they stopped producing those. ;(

I have an Injen Intake and dig it a lot. Mines not for sale but you can check out the thread in my sig for videos and pictures. It's pretty deep in there (very bottom of OP) but there's a 2 videos and a few photos.

I've been wondering about intakes.
Coming from the evo world an intake is bound to void warranty.
Is it the same with honda's?
I was just looking at drop in filters.
K&N or maybe another type I am currently unaware of.

The dealer/ manufacturer actually has to prove that any modifications that you make caused damage before they can void your warranty actually.

So I can slap an intake on my car and that's it?
No retune?
If so that'd be nice.

A stock fit with an intake could expect what kind of horsepower increase with a hondata reflash? I know it's not out yet but I'm aware that there was one done for the GD. I'm just starting to understand what reflashing is.

edit: Since the stock intake is kinda a cold air intake from the factory (air comes straight from the grill) dont expect much.

Yeah but a intake/exhaust really makes this car sound excellent. If your looking for a drop in though I would go with a dry one instead of the oiled ones (k&n).

had these on my fit...
DIY then PRM then TOP FUEL
How they sound:
DIY with AFE filter: Nice deep throaty grunt and not a hint of being tinny, almost sounds like those new/newer INFINITI exhaust.
PRM: This is very opposite to the DIY, it's loud tinny and is quite obnoxious. it's sound spectrum is in the mid/highs, more like a trumpet. This intake also drowns my exhaust sound. only ran it for a few weeks and sold it.
TOP FUEL: Coming from the PRM, this one sounds very subtle. it doesn't drown the exhaust sound. this intake starts off loud (not as loud as PRM) and then becomes subtle up the gears.
Verdict:
Which sound best to me... DIY with AFE filter!
This thing just sound so good. Every time I see and hear an Infiniti exhaust note it reminds me of this intake. I think it's deep grunt sound is due to it's construction... dense abs plastic, silicone couplers and the AFE filter's rubber constructed top and base. This DIY complements my exhaust note beautifully, a nice overlapping of the two. I still have this DIY tucked away and would install it in a heart beat but because I show the car, I kept using TOP FUEL.
lol that turned into a mine rant/review

Very nice sound review on these three options ThEvilOnE! It looks like you used the big cone filter that AutoZone, etc. carries on the DIY setup. Did you have any trouble fitting it in there? I've read a lot of comments of it having to be stuffed in and that it rubs against things.
Also, did you just use one of the little cone filters on the engine breather tube? Honestly, that's my one worry about going the DIY route. Since the stock intake has that tube tapped into the intake, it seems like it would be good to have it tapped into an aftermarket intake as well. But, maybe it doesn't matter as long as it can breathe.
Thanks,
Dustin
