No Deceleration When Braking

No Deceleration When Braking
I'm not really sure how to describe this issue... Occasionally, when I'm coasting downhill at high speed and then I apply the brakes, the engine continues to rev at, say, 3000 RPM, and it's a bit jarring. The engine continues to run as if I never applied the brakes (though the speed of the car decreases).
Hope that makes sense or sounds familiar.
I have a brand new Fit Base AT.
Thanks.

It sounds perfectly normal to me. The car doesn't shift itself into neutral when you apply the brakes—it stays in gear, providing some amount of engine braking. Some automatic transmissions will even downshift when the brakes are used under certain circumstances to give additional engine braking; I don't know if the Fit's does this or not.

Thanks Drew. It seems like it's probably normal, like you say... I just don't know why I've never noticed it before with any other cars I've had. Maybe because it's my first NEW car, so I'm very aware of everything. :-)
