The current version of the Fit still gets high rankings based on US News and Consumer Reports because it does what it suppose to do, reliability is high, depreciation is low, has one of the highest mpg for a non-hybrid. Even the 2014 Fiesta is still 5 speed and drum rear brakes. I think the next Fit may offer more amenities, 125hp and 5% increase in mpg. I do not think this would make me consider getting rid of my current Fit. Now if they actually did a Si version I may consider it.

A Fit with an updated body, better electronics and an Si engine, 6 speed manual...I would get that.

Not from what I have read. Maybe in comparison to the previous one.

Sales of all cars have been down of late (you know that whole economic crisis thing?), the 06-11 was a good car.

The 2012 was an embarrassment.

I haven't seen a 2013.

As far as sales figures were concerned, the 2012 civic wasn't awful; 300,000+ Civics Sold in one year. the three previous years trailed by 40,000-80,000 and at it's peak, the 9th gen civic (06-11) only sold 39K more in one year (the 3rd year of that Gen). The Press had a field day with the 2012 civic but it didn't seem to impact sales. Overall, I believe it is a well-built car for the masses. The enthusiast crowd wasn't as pleased, however, a lot of "enthusiast opinions" are armchair racers.

Keeping up with who? The Fit is the current king of the B segment in the under $20K category.
I'm not brand loyal to Honda. I don't have any stocks in that company and I don't work for them; so if there is a better car than Honda, I won't hesitate to buy that car. LOL.

a mazda 3 hatchback has always been the car i wanted. since i get a employee discount at honda i got a 2013 fit. plus my parents have a 2010 fit. the fit has been on my mind. my girl friend has a 2009 civic exl with nav. so i didnt want another civic at the house. im kinda sad they did nothing to update the car for 2013. at times i wish that i did get the mazda 3 the fit does feel cheap at times. with no leather and xm radio option. i spent $25000 total with the things i added on. the mazda 3 would have been $25000 before taxes.

What did you add to bring it up to $25,000?

I like the Mazda3 but the tight rear seats, wide center console and smile turned me off when I was looking for a car. I like the looks of the 1st generation better. I also thought the interior got cheaper looking in the second generation.

How much was the employee discount? That sounds like a lot of money for what you got...

To SOME, king of the segment, still. To others, getting long in the tooth and falling behind. No company can rest on it's laurels. They need to strive to stay ahead. GM got complacent, and look what happened to them. It can happen to any company. While still good, the Fit has to be innovative, and stay ahead, not rest.

While I agree that the Fit is behind as far as technological gadgets go, I still think it's one of the most cleverly engineered cars out there. I like that it's a great car even without all the technological goodies, I think some cars hide behind that and sell because of that. I'm sure Honda will have a back up camera and bluetooth and all the current goodies with the new design.

That's kind of a good thing really. Less shit to go wrong and this is more of a back to basics kind of car for me so I'm fine with it. As long as I have AC / heater and power windows I'm happy.

Agreed. I can add most of the gadgets that are really useful to me via the aftermarket anyway, and I have. Small, simple, inexpensive, tossable, and utility that exceeds its price point is what I was looking for in this car. The current Fit is a winner on those points.

Honda has a way of growing their cars physically over time. The current Civic is the same size as my E46 3 series *, while my 1978 Civic was considerably smaller than the Fit. The next gen Fit will probably be larger. Yet another reason why I bought this one.

* and BMW does it too, which is one reason why my next German car, if there is a next German car for me, will probably be a Porsche.
