Remote Start
#2
I bought it for mine and love it! I see you are in Illinois so you gotta be getting similar weather to me in Michigan. I'm not really sure what there would be to regret by getting it. It is expensive but if you roll it into your car deal it should only be a few extra bucks a month.

I have been thinking about going the aftermarket route. I hear that the OEM remote start will kill the motor and you have to restart the car each time before you actually can drive it. I would rather just be able to put the key in and go without having to restart the car each time.
I am somewhat nervous trying to find someone that I can trust to install it.

That is true about the OEM starter shutting off the motor. If you are buying a NEW Fit I wouldn't recommend going aftermarket. The reason I say this is because by tampering with your wiring you give Honda a huge opportunity to deny any warranty claim that has to do with your electrical system. I work at a Honda dealer and I've seen it done! If you go aftermarket make sure the manufacturer of the system you get will cover 100% parts and labor for any issues you may have in the future.

This warranty business is legit but....most dealerships offer two or three remote starters. Ask for all options. Do research, then make best decision and let the dealer install it.
Problem solved.
A side note. I use mine every day of the winter season. Don't be afraid to ask what kind of customization is available. For example most models come with a 5 10or 15 min remote start time. selectable. So ask questions about customization and decide what works for you!

My wife loves her remote start...
Let me know if Honda actually has a remote start that you don;t have to kill and restart because of the Honda security and locking systems. I looked in to it for our 2008 and they said no and it was like $600 for the module alone so I went aftermarket via Omega R & D - Car Alarms | Remote Start | Vehicle Tracking | SmartPhone Interface

i installed VIPER smart Start
I have the VIPER SMART START installed.
I have a iPhone5 so i prefer the Smart Start instead of the short ranged starters as i can use my iPhone to start the car ANYwhere.
there is a subscription fee of $261 for 3 years but it is a worthy price because i have GPS location Tracking on my car and the ability to start my car anywhere is priceless!
installation is about $450.00 i do not carry extra key fobs as i only need my iPhone. it is a good investment.

Having this one installed on Monday- Audiovox : Prestige : Remote Start Systems : APS57C
$225 installed. It's a basic unit, remote start and lock operation only, but we had the same one installed on my wifes TSX and also sister in law's Accord. Flawless in both cars for about a year and a half, and the range is very good.
FWIW, the car shutting off if you touch the brake before inserting/turning the key is a common anti theft feature in remote starters. May be programmable in certain systems, but I wouldn't let it be a major decision maker- how often do you drive off in your car without first turning it on?
It's too bad you're not closer to the SW Chicago burbs. Same guys who installed my wife's is doing mine- I'm a pretty meticulous guy, so naturally I inspected his install. Soldered and heat shrinked splices, and all tied up as neat as the factory. Chris at Audible Excellence in New Lenox, IL.
