What u say about : 185-55-16

I say that 185-55-16 is stock tire size here in the U.S. so go ahead and use that if you want. With 30 less hp (1.2L) than our 1.5L I don't think you'd benefit much from the wider (and heavier) 205-50-16 that a lot of us U.S. guys are running instead of the stock size.

Bigger? or wider?
Bigger tires will loweer your mpg's because the engine has to work harder to turn tires tht are farghter from the axle.
Wider is a good choice and idf you are careful it will increase your handling with little effect on your mpg's or acceleratiion.
205/55x15's sounds like a good choice to start (They make that? )
good luck.

More what? cornering, longer tread life?, best wet or snow? fastest lap times?
Those all have different answers.
speed: 205/45x16 tires, with best lap times at tirerack test results
tread life: 205/50x16 with UTOG of 700 or more; maybe 600+
least cost: scour the internet for best price on tires above, including 185/55x16.
Thats before deciding if you are lowering or changing wheel sizes. Or offset for wider stance.
yeah, its a bit complicated. And needs considerable research.

Wider tires? bigger diameter wheels? wider stance?
With 1200cc's You probably shouldn't exceed 195 width and since you're original diameter tire is 23.95" I'd check on 195/55x15 tires, if they are available. Those are a trifle less diameter but are heavier so the lesser diameter will mostly overcome the weight penalty and have negligible affect on mpg's. If you want a different wheel hold to minimum 45mm offset (which widens your stance by about 14mm) and you can go with 195/40x17 tires on 17" wheels or 195/50x16 tires on 16" wheels.
good luck.
