Were using General G-Max AS03 in 205-50-16 on our 2012. Awesome in the wet, and were getting plenty of it.

Running 205/50/16 Continental Extreme Contact DWS here. No problems with tires ,wear acceptable for a softer tire conpound. I have close to 25,000 on mine and still have 9/32 tread on them. They are light years ahead of my stock Dunlops. I have had mine in deep water at highway speeds and little evidence of hydroplaning. Cornering in wet and dry conditions is near 100% better. Recent snows here, and while they aren't my Michelin IceX 2's,but have stunned me as being nearly the same in starting and stopping power. However cornering in the snow isn't as good as I would like,or as good as the Ice X2's, they are still very acceptable. I have no plans to change over to the Ice X2's this winter. I drive mostly highway to and from work and in summer routinely have hit 38-40mpg. However driving in the snow I have noticed a greater drop in mileage over my IceX2's. I assume the DWS being 1" wider then stock size may have an effect on snow driven mileage.

BTW , after driving first few miles on DWS I noticed they squirm a bit on hard cornering. I bumped up the air pressure to 38psi and they now deliver much more solid handling. No center tire wear from overinflation noticed at nearly 25,000 miles.

The DWS ride Much smoother and far less noise. They improved handling, quietness, and ride on my 2009 Fit Sport Manual and is like a whole other car. My girlfriend has an 2010 Scion XD and had nearly same issues with her stock Bridgestone tires. She has driven my Fit with the Dunnies, and now the Conti's and was impressed enough to get a set of DWS on her XD. On recent snow here she was tickled that she got up a major hill into her developement ,where the stock Bridgestone failed several times last year. The day she put the DWS on she called from the way home from the tire store and said OMG what a difference. Now for a woman who knows nothing about cars and tires to notice just how a good set of tires affected a car,the DWS has lived up to their name. When the DWS wear out, both of us will be buying another set.

Alright.
Thanks everyone for your advice and suggestions. And don't be insulted if I didn't heed your specific advice.

In the end? I decided to go with Yokohoma Avid Ascends in the original OEM size. Basically this was because of high level of paranoia I suffer from.

I was afraid if I upgraded to a larger size, I'd imagine MPG loss, or sluggish handling....even if it did not exist. So I stayed conservative and remained with the Original OEM sport size tires.

At this point I refrain from review. I just don't have enough miles on them to make a real judgement. And so far the conditions have been cold and dry. So these following comments are NOT a total review, just initial impressions.

They seem fine. "Maybe" a slight reduction in road noise, but not hugely significant. Handling and initial driving feel? Seem about the same as the Dunlops. My biggest complaint with the Dunlops was road noise and how quickly they seemed to wear down. I basically got just over two years, and less than 25,000 miles out of them. Although I admit, I could of gone a little longer on two of the four had I wanted to press them a little longer.

I'll drop another review once I've driven some significant miles and experienced them in more diverse driving conditions.

My hope is that they last longer. I don't see how they could last less...

Thanks for posting. That's helpful. Let us know if you have any further thoughts as you rack up more miles.

Thanks for a reasonable review. Too soon to say is appropriate. Anyone gushing praise on a new set of tires is justified but only because any new tire will ride and handle better than tires that have gone 25-60K miles. I look for the reviews that have lived with the tires at least 20K miles, preferably more. The last 20K are the worst.

I wonder about people getting more than 30K from the factory Dunlops. I wonder if a large percentage of Fits are poorly aligned. Mine wore on the edges (but there wasn't much tread left in the middle either) after 30K. The current set of Michelins I'm running have 20K and continue to perform well. But Michelin makes Energy tires in the stock Base size...

The biggest difference I can tell over the stock Dunlops is stopping distance. The Michelins have saved me from embarrassment (and maybe injury) a couple times on wet Atlanta roads. And my MPG went up (could be the alignment though...)

Conti DWS

Hola, I have an '09 Fit Sport 5MT with 57000 miles. I put on Conti DWS at about 45000 miles and really like them. I live in St Louis, and we have the full spectrum of 4-season weather with rain, snow & freezing rain, along with very hot & humid summers.

I could tell a difference right away when I had the DWS mounted--the car felt more grippy. I've gotten used to it, and the car handles much better in foul weather than it did with the Dunlops. Just yesterday we had rain at near freezing temps and I felt very sure-footed with my DWS. Much better than the Dunlops in similar circumstances.

MPG has not suffered at all with the larger footprint. I am a little bit of a lead foot... I typically drive 5-10 mph over the suggested speed limit and average 32-35 mpg.

Conti DWS are winners in my book.

After a couple months...

....and driving in more diverse conditions, I'd say I'm happy with my Yokohoma Avid Ascends.

Everything I said earlier still applies. I'm glad I stayed with the original OEM size. My speedometer is 100% correct.

When you buy new tires, if you do too much research at all? You'll hear a LOT of hype or marketing about tires.

Reduced road noise. Better handling, Increased gas mileage. JUST BUY THESE TIRES!

Well, to be honest, from a handling characteristics standpoint? On all 3 points? Noise, Handling and Mileage? I don't really notice a significant difference.

I was concerned about wet weather handling as I get a LOT of wet weather driving in the Northwest.

I would say the Yokohoma Avid Ascends are at least as good as the OEM Dunlaps in this regard perhaps a little better. Since I did read some reviews that suggested they were poor in this area, I'm happy. IMO the Ascends handle fine in rain.

So while I haven't gotten any great advertised "super" improvement, I would say these are fine replacement for the OEM Dunlaps.

If I get anything above 25,000 additional miles on the Yokohoma's? Then I'd say they are superior. But I won't know how legitimate that might be for quite a while.

But if you are looking for a Honda Fit Sport OEM sized replacement tire? I think the Yokohoma Avid Ascends are a perfectly fine replacement choice.

Even if they aren't quite as "magical" as some of the manufacturer's advertising would lead you to believe.
