Pulsating headlights

Over the last few days I've noticed at night the headlights output dips while driving on the highway. It seems to happen about every 20-30 seconds. I don't notice any other issues with the car, nor do I notice the issue while driving in city traffic. What could it be?

It is an 09 base Fit. Thanks!

Are you driving with the A/C or defrost on? (defroster/defogger activates A/C compressor). The interval sounds about right for that (20-30 second cycles).

Fits don't control voltage to the headlamps evenly, so varying system loads cause headlights to flicker.

Should be happening the same at city speeds though (maybe high ambient light drowns out the effect...). Try stopping in a dark alley and shine the headlights on a wall. Note if the lights flicker, then try to determine the associated reason (A/C is most likely). Just don't get mugged.

It is possible your battery is going out, but that's a long shot. Have it checked if nothing else.

I am using the defroster more often now, which makes sense. I'll test it out at some point tonight or tomorrow in a dark spot to see if it acts the same. Thanks!

Don't use the AC Keep in mind the Ac is ON any time you have the "defrost windshield" setting on, as it is in most cars.

See if that works.

going to a parts store and getting a battery ground wire fixed lots of flickering on my car. i think it was a 2 gauge battery terminal wire with the normal eye connector on the end.

Just updated my grounding, so you have a better idea.

These pictures of mine are huge! Beware!

For those who dont wanna load the big pictures, I grounded using 3 wires total. 2 gauge from the radiator support, 8 gauge from the lowest left intake manifold bolt next to EGR valve, and from left bolt on clutch slave.

This gives me bigger grounding from the left, center, and right of the engine bay, and that left one is a nice huge 2 gauge fit for a nice stereo I will be installing in the future

Sounds like the issue i had when i was test driving a new 2012 fit with a dying battery. At idle with the lights on and defroster on the alternator was barely making enough power to keep the car running. The lights were dim and sometimes the power steering lamp would illuminate.

Mine did the exact same thing. Turn on your domelight with your headlights on. Does it pulsate when you accelerate? If so, then it's the alternator brushes. I ended up replacing the entire alternator which solved the problem.
