Question Replaceing '09 OEM HU with GPS unit

Hello, am new here and just bought my wife a 2009 base Fit for Xmas.

I did some searches and couldn't find any recent threads on how to replace the factory head unit with a aftermarket unit, I'm interested in getting a full gps screen type HU and am wondering about cable interfaces, how to remove the dash, etc.

Any help would be appreciated or point me with links to some install instructions, hopefully with photos.

Thanks,

Thanks, Goobers, I didn't recognize that "I.C.E." sub section had to do with electronics... may sound dumb, but what does that stand for? .. Interior -Car-Electronics ?

I would suggest buying from crutchfield.com as they include an install kit that has the wires, wire harness and dash trim you would need. They also have a 60 day money back guarentee!

Question Crutchfield vrs Sonic, etc.

Thanks for the illustrations and information. I was aware of Crutchfield, but their prices are pretty high on many of their items compared to Sonic and some others on Amazon. For instance, I was looking at this JVC KW-NT300 $750 at Crutchfield and the same JVC KW-NT300 offered for $530 at Sonic. And this Pioneer Pioneer AVIC-Z140BH is $1100 at Crutchfield and the same Pioneer AVIC-Z140BH is $840 at Sonic.
Both dealers offer free install kits. Looks like Crutchfield has the better instruction set, but for several hundred more on many of their units that doesn't look worth it as I could get a shop to install for less.

There is another thread around here where someone put a Pioneer AVIC in theirs. Installation is pretty easy as it is so saving money sounds better. I installed a Clarion NX620 but had buyers remorse and took it back out a week later.

Also, I found that when pulling off the face I had a much easier time starting from the left side rather than the glove box area like in the instructions. The white clips are a pain in the ass......you'll see what I mean.

OK, thanks, I'll have to look and see if I can find some threads on installing a rear view camera too and how the wires can be run from the back to the front gps/HU .. have you done that too?

Thanks, Mini! Am still trying to decide whether I want to spend that much.. I had hoped to keep the cost down around $500, but will see.

It's mainly to help my wife when she drives and to give her confidence to go places... she has absolutely no sense of direction. I've told her over and over, go the opposite direction from where you think you should be headed.

If you're trying to stay within reasonable budget but still want quality and functionality, go with the lower line Pioneer AVIC-X940BT, those run for about $550~ new

I didn't install a rearview camera but I did look into it. What you would have to do is pull the deck lid trim panel off and run the wires through the "hose" license plate lighting goes through.

there are a few helpful threads on here about it. just search for them. best option seems to buy the oem bezel and get an aftermarket gps, install as you would in a fit that comes stock with it.
