Possible K swap. :)

So I got a buddy selling a K20z motor for dirt cheap but he lives out of town. He says that if I really want it, he'll bring it over next summer when visiting. So I told him I'll take it, even after knowing that ive never done a K swap ever, I said hell yes. But a few of you may already know that they dont make motor mounts for K swaps for the GE. Although ive seen it done before, I'm not sure what mounts they use. Its also hooked up for OBD1. Can I just switch the harness to OBD2? Anyone have any answers or any info on what I am missing, what I need, please feel free to chime in. I have until summer next year to get all the info and parts I need to prep for this. Its a K swap, and I'm dying for one.

Do you have $12-15k lying around?

Yes? Congrats, now a year of busting your ass studying, gathering parts, procuring tools and sourcing nuts, bolts hoses and pipework left to go.

No? Not going to happen.

Id like to see someone else start the build first. Someone with more intellect at engine swaps.

Lol. Yea. I've been doing a lot of research. See if it can be done.

I have another solution for the swap. I might take it toa local shop that has done these kinds of things. They've done D/B/K/J swaps even RB/2JZ/SR swaps. Parts I know they can source. But the money. Ive got time for that.

Yea its from the Type S. And when I say dirt cheap, I mean cheaper than a complete B swap.

From what I understand it's not just the mounts...you're going to have to deal with cross-members etc...Props to you if you do it, but I would put that money in an older WRX or something rather than being a pioneer...or you could reach out to people in the Phillipines etc. to see if they could source parts/advice/mounts for you.

Yea theres a lot of fabrication needed as well. I'm still looking for all the info I need. I know for sure the UK and Asian forums might have some more info on it.

Good...it's not as though it's not worth it. However, it requires a big investment in this chasis in multiple ways.

As I've tried to point out for more than a few folks (none of whom ever followed through anyways)

The mounts are just about the least of your concerns when putting a K20 (or any other motor really) into a GE.

The Hasport mounts are not exactly a super easy prospect either and often involve considerable modification. Ask some of the K-swapped GD owners.

I have seen this personally on Glockbag's K20 GD3, and he had some choice words for Hasport after he and the shop he took it to finally massaged them into cooperating. Even then there were still some headaches.

I've heard both, but I would err on the side of "will not work"

Its probable one of those things where one or two of the mounts bolt right up but modifications have to be made for the kit to work. Like you have said getting mounts and the engine mounted in the car is just the tip of the iceberg

https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/2nd-...-my-email.html

supposedly someone e-mailed hasport and hasport confirmed that the mounts themselves work, but like dsm suggests, that is a small portion of the whole picture
