oil change interval too quick?

oil change interval too quick?
I have a question for my 2012 fit.
I got the car in jan 4, 2012, my first oil change was done at 4000 miles at 15% MM in june 8, 2012. Now in Sept, the mileage is around 7500 miles and the MM reminder is 30%. I think it will go down to 20% soon. How come the oil change is so soon? I heard ppl here drove their fit 10k+ miles or 9 to 10 months before an oil change.
I'm in NYC, i drive around 30% highway and 60%to 70% local driving. Even when it's highway, there's still alot traffic thanks to the L.I.Expressway, it's always packed. but to my surprise, I get around 330-350 miles per tank of gas.
thanks

Stop and go driving, like this will require more frequent oil changes. The MM uses an electronic algorithm that takes these things into account when determining when the oil should be changed.
I go about 10k miles or so but I do a lot of 30mph coasting in traffic and long road trips with constant speeds which isn't as hard on the oil/engine.

It's not based on miles, it's based on engine revolutions and factors in engine temperature. You probably had more short trips the first time. Short trips where it doesn't heat up enough to boil off contaminants shortens oil life.
7500 with 30% remaining isn't bad.

if you read my post correctly, my first oil change was around 4000 miles(3996 to be exact), my 2nd oil change coming up soon isn't 7500 miles, it's around 4000 again. I currently have around 7500 miles. so I'm changing my oils every 4k?

you can push it to 0% if you want on the reminder's remaining oil life.
one time ive pushed it to -400 miles or something cause i was using synthetic.

lol.
I didn't push my fit's MM to the fullest when i had my first oil change. i did remember going to honda and had them change the oil at 10% MM. When my oil hits around 15% or 10%MM, I'll make another appointment with honda.
by the way, honda charges $39.99 for 0w20 and filter, is that avg price?
thanks

4,000 miles on the first oil change is rather low I think. I drive in similar conditions as yourself being in NYC, and my first oil change didn't come till about ~6500 miles w/ 20% on the MM.
My previous 2 oil changes were about 7500-8000 (per interval w/ 15% MM). At the rate I'm going now, my 4th oil change will be about 10,000 miles interval (I'm currently at 30% with about 9,000 miles).

You go a lot shorter distance per engine revolution at 25 mph in a low gear vs. highway 5th gear. That's one reason why city driving (especially NYC with lights every block) leads to more frequent oil changes on the MM.

What's your mpg and how much fuel did you use before the MM clicked over?
People go by miles for historical reasons since there is an odometer.
But if you think of it, a better 1-variable measure of oil wear would be fuel consumed.

39.99 is not a high price. even jiffylube or speedee will charge you that much if not more. I would say it is very competitive, especially if it is done with a time promise. Also, does it come with a car wash too? That's $10-15 of "value" right there.
Cheaper oil changes on the $19.99 level tend to force you to be at the mercy of the mechanic's clock, where they may get it done fast, but may also say you got to leave your car for 4hours.

I dont know how much fuel I used before the mm changes. My car is auto and my avg miles/gall is 29.xx. I also use 89 octane gas.

I'm at 80% oil life and my month old MT Fit just ticked over 1000 miles. About half of that was purely on the highway though. I'm also in NYC and do a lot of stop and go in traffic and at this rate should be at 20% when I hit 4000 miles. So what you're seeing is right about what I'm getting too. My avg mpg in the city is around 28 and on the highway is around 45 if that helps. In my previous car it was recommended that I change the oil every 3000 miles anyway so at this point an oil change every 4-5k miles doesnt faze me too much.
