2012 Short Shifter Install! PICS! INSTRUCTIONS FOR 2012s!

Traded the 09 Base for a 2012 Sport!

My buddy bought me a T1R short shifter for my 2012 and said it should be like his, nice and easy.

Well it isnt... Thats my mad face Honda. And I couldnt find any 2012 short throw installs with google or the search on firfreak.

They hold the shift lever down with a roll pin and another shaft that holds the one lever for your forward/back motion. That other shaft is held in via one of those washer like things that only goes on one way and doesnt come of the other. A barb like effect it uses sorta thing.

Anyways I Installed mine after working a 12 hour night shift.

The roll pin is easy, grab a screw driver/roll pin punch and hammer it out. The shifter assembly looks to be all black abs plastic and its strong.

The shaft isnt so easy to remove.... I dont know how to remove those washer without destroying them. On mine I tried prying it off (also did make a little bit of a mess of the plastic, nothing structural but it looks kinda fugly now) and it broke in two. Had to think of a new way to prevent the shaft from sliding inwards/out of the housing...

Anyways What I did was drill a hole in the shaft with it all the way in, and then put a screw in the hole. If I had a cotter pin I would have rather used that...

Anyhoo pics!

This first pic is after I broke the little retainer on the shaft as it is not on it. The Roll pin is still in the shifter assembly. You can see once both are out you just pull the bit up and off the shift linkage to free it (after you remove the cables of course).

The broken clip.

My really terrible looking but not that bad setup to prevent the shaft from moving out.

Annnd the finished product! I also got the suede shift boot and bought myself a Blox 490 Shift knob to match the car.

Shifts Great! Went on a road trip to BC from Alberta slamming 2100kms on the car and nothing broke so I did something right! Yay!

Hopefully other 2012 owners down open their console to find this and scratch their head for a while like I did....
