Rear spring?

I have had this Fit for 6 months (65,000 miles) and have really enjoyed it. However, I just had to replace a bolt and nut in the rear passenger wheel. Soon after dealer did this I started hearing this "clunk" every so often. The only time I can reproduce the noise at all (not all the time) is when I drive over a small ridge (1.5 inches) going into my garage. I have removed/moved around stuff in the trunk, and I am planning on taking everything out to see if I can figure this out.

Any ideas? Has anyone else had problems with the rear suspension?

Thanks

I bet it's the shock upper bushings. Mine clunk like crazy whenever I'm driving slow or going over things like you described. It started around 45k miles, I am at 60k now and still experience it unless I pull the shocks off and grease the bushings every 6 months or so.

I'm guessing you are experiencing this because the dealer took the shock off to gain clearance to replace the stud.

Thanks Cookie. I have been having similar problem. Well not really a problem more of an annoyance. I put Swifts in a couple of years ago and was wondering if this caused a problem. I guess the cure is to replace the bushings.

Thanks for the replies.
Assuming this is the case, is there real damage being done?

Can one get at the bushings from underneath and grease without removing shocks?

It is a noise that doesn't happen all the time, even on a bumpy road. That is the annoying part, and what makes it hard to figure out.

I removed everything from the trunk area that could rattle and checked the spare tire to see if it was lose. We'll see.

There are two rubber mounts on the upper end of the shock. One inside and one underneath the body. Then there is the bushing on the lower end. In addition to these there are rubber mounts on either end of the spring. Could be any of these that may be worn some.

On mine I suspect it may be one of the ones on the spring as I put Swifts in and maybe one mount did not get put in correctly. Then again the groaning we hear sounds more like it may be the top mounts on the shock strut.

Now if someone would like to take theirs to Honda to get it sorted....

Anyone else hearing this noise on lowering springs?

No damage that I can see on mine. The rubber looks fine. I just lube em up good and put them back. I do have to remove the shock completely though to get to the bottom bushing. It is really easy just be sure to leave a jack under the spring perch to keep it from falling out.

not me... my 09's stock suspension has over 33K miles, rarely washed, and no issue.

my 12' has swift springs but it's brand new still and i dont expect any noise. if there is groaning kind of noise, i would first remove the spring, clean the mounts throughly, and put some white litheum grease where it contacts the spring, and perhaps put some grease on the shock mounts if it appears the shocks are in good shape.

Here is a non-update update. I took everything out of the back, so it isn't anything knocking around. The noise also "seems" to be more of "twang" at times, quite loud as well. I will maybe jack up the Fit and look underneath.

Thanks for the replies. I guess there is something going on, just got to figure out what.

If it's a "twang" I would guess the tech forgot to replace one of the spring rubbers.

..or the spring shifted in the carrier and rubbing the side of the carrier. i would look for scuff marks on the springs towards the center of the car.
