Oh I also only drive between the hours of 10pm n 6am
Put the hubcaps back in to see any improvement. Some cars had special designed on hub caps to increase MPG.

First, lights are required so they don't say what mpg is lost. That is what I see and I was being Conservative. Many Factors Affect MPG

Second, I meant cooler temps compared to the Hot Arizona temps. The best outside temps that I have observed is from 60 to 80 degrees for better mpg. I get better mpg in the early morning than when I return home in the hot evening. Fuel Economy: Where the Energy Goes

Not even this guy would see a 10% change in fuel consumed because of the added alternator load:

From a mental health standpoint, it is probably best to not pay attention to your gas mileage so much. Just follow the maintenance schedules, do an inspection of fluids and tire pressure once a week or so and leave it at that.

What does your running voltage drop to?

Even STFT +10 instantaneous on the surge would be pushing it.

You know this is what I do week in week out, I'm not singling you out.

When someone's closing the window and its tops out, the surge in draw from the motor affects STFT.. A/C compressor equipped cars have enrichment tables during open loop for when the signal grounds..

10% fuel consumption increase from turning on headlights/taillights is excessive and indicates an electrical system issue that is creating a situation like dropping voltage considerably and injector latency going through the roof keeping the injectors open longer but starting to spray later.. which makes it a vicious circle.

I'm aware we have a small displacement, low torque motor.. but we also have pretty weak lighting. Do you think Honda would've found 10% parasitic loss from headlight operation acceptable? Of all the places they have to compromise, that would be one of them.

This isn't about supporting someone or turning my back on them, Glen. So don't take it that way. There are other things we have agreed to disagree about in the past lol And a good deal of what we both have explained to people for a couple years now have been vindicated by unsuspecting newbies lately

Your missing the point. Its about HP and the lack of when there is a drag on the motor. The Fit is under-powered so the mpg is hurting a little because of it. My fuel trims are -5.5 for both and today I put the lights on at idle and the throttle opened up using more air and my trims went richer to -4.7. Engine loads went from 30 to 40. When I am on the Highway I see this more and and the loads are increased 10-15 percent or more. Mpg is a average of conditions and I see my instant mpg changed from 60 mpg at 70mph to 50 when the lights are on its using more fuel. You know that knock retard changes the motor efficiency and that cooler temps makes more power and I was not going there directly. I dont care what gas people use but if they have a problem and care why then I will talk about it.

I don't drive with the lights on both ways even in the winter. I am not saying the OP problem is the lights but even at 6 am its getting darker later in the morning.

I also don't drive for a hour with the lights on so the percent of time with the lights on to engine on also plays into the total percentage. Lights are a safety item and when needed they should be used as needed without worry to cost.

I wont be posting any more. I don't have a Fit anymore but do have a Honda and I get the same mpg as my old Fit. I am addicted to this site though.

I use only top tier gas at Quiktrip (where I work) and filled it half way up.

Help? I would hate to have leave it with the dealer for a few days. I love my new fit.
The heat kills gas mileage on our Fits! I'm in Vegas and lost 5 mpgs from Spring to Summer! A/C unit and hot air is doing it!

Sorry for not offering a solution, but I have gotten anywhere
between 29-39 mpg. It is still much better than my other vehicle. I still appreciate the 8-9 gallon fill-up.

Well coming from a del sol that got a solid 40mpg, you could say in obsessed with good mileage.

Well I filled up again on wednesday, and guess what. I was getting 40mpg on my way home. Now im averaging 36mph on the streets... So strange!!

The reason I haven't put my hubcaps back on is because one already fell off :|

I feel like if these Fits had a 1.7 or 1.8 they'd get better highway mpg as well. The Civic has always had better highway mpg, now not only does it have better highway mpg, but the city is the same as the Fit base, but that's what the epa says, take that with a grain of salt, but still! And I'm sure when the 2013 Civic refresh comes around they'll get more like 30 highway. The Fit is really more of a compact car, than a subcompact. That 1.5 is just too damn underpowered for the size of the car, if 1.5 would do fine a 1991 Civic hatchback but not a Fit!

For anyone interested. This thread will go nowhere for probably 20 more pages. Lady you are on your own. Hubcaps?? Really? ?? Here's some "real" advice
1) antenna is causing drag. Remove it!
2)car is too heavy with full tank only fill half way!
3)blue headlights. Hybrids have them for a reason!
4) the most important part : your del sol didn't average 40mpgs. You did the figures and now a cpu takes care of it. Probably more accurate.

And underpowered 1.5 uummm yea its an 88 hp 1.5 liter honda. You do realize that blueraspberry don't you. If you spend as much time learning to drive it as giving excuses for its lack of torque. You would have learned how to drive it to all of its potential.
