Onset of engine noise

Yes, I'm probably just talking about the valve noise that others have comment on and that Honda is known for.

I've even heard it on my old CRV in cold weather so I know what it could sound like, although, that car had 75k miles on it.

But I have less than 1000 miles on the 2012 Fit since new and so, I'm worried. This noise appeared, as far as I can tell, today - I was listening for it when new and it wasn't there. In fact one thing I liked about the Fit was that at idle it was VERY silent.

Is it normal to not have the noise initially, and have it start so soon?

Thanks

I think so. I had mine adjusted as a part of the lost motion spring recall and the noise was better for a day or two.

When did you hear the noise, when you increase the RPM at stand still or when you drive it ? I hear the noise increase when I drive my car it sound abnormal to me on mine.

Mine was quiet for a short time when I first got it, but it started intermittantly pretty quickly. I wouldn't worry about it. Mine got quieter with synthetic oil, either that or I just got used to it

Neither. The noise is only audible on idle. It is much more noticeable from outside the car actually, although the idle inside has become noticeably louder than when new.

If I rev the engine - either in gear or when stationary - the normal increase in engine noise from this action masks the noise I am describing. It's probably still going on, it's just that the intake noise and engine vibrations are obscuring it.

It is not objectionably loud, however. Still within the realm of acceptable, although, I wish it had not developed this noise as I liked the quiet nature of the car.

I wish it was more quiet too. But I think it's normal.

Same deal after the LMS recall (quieter for a few days than back to the way it was). 47K here and it isn't any worse than 10K.

Better than having them silent. When valves go quiet they tend to give the seats a good workout.
