Removing Honda Floormat Hooks

I just got the Weather-tech All-Weather floor mats and was trying to install the driver's side mat. However, my 2012 Honda Fit base came with some hooks already installed and some cheap plastic "mat". I am having trouble figuring out how to remove these hooks. I have attached pictures in case that helps. Also, these hooks are exactly where the Weather-tech hooks need to go. Will I have any problem installing them? Thanks.

Pry up on the front of the clip to unlatch while holding down the rear of the clip. Be careful because it's easy to tear the rug. The image below shows the installation so you can see how they are in there.

I believe you're not suppose to remove them when installing the WeatherTech All-Weather Mats. Read step 3 in the installation instructions. Also pictures from weathertech.com show that the factory hooks are indeed holding the mats in place.

Factory hooks for me are too tall to allow the Weathertech mats to go flush to the floor. I've been thinking of removing only the top portion of the factory hooks that spin. This would lower the hook ~1/4" to allow the WT mats to sit flush on the floor but still enough hook remaining to keep the mats from sliding.

In my case, the factory hooks did not go fully through the Weathertech mats so I wasn't sure if I needed to remove them. However, the mat doesn't seem to be sliding around much. If if starts sliding, I'll probably try the Velcro fix mentioned in previous threads.

You must have the Weathertech rubber mats then. The WT digital mats doesn't have a hole for the hook to pass thru only a raised dimple for it to sit on top of the hook. However as I said the hook is too tall to allow the digital mat to sit perfectly flush on the floor. This allows the mat to slip around a little.
