Yeah the yards by Willet's Point (Shea area) are still open... Even though hizzoner's been trying to close them for years. They aint going anywhere anytime soon, nuff pending law suits/hearings before the mayor can or will put emminent domain in to effect.

If you do go there, go to all the shops first, get the best price and then go back to the "better" place and haggle the price down.

When my windshield got a rock chip, that turned into a crack, my insurance company sent over Safelite. They came right to my house and did the work, aside from some minor scuffs around the windshield on the paint (which I buffed out quite easily), they did a great job.

safelite is one option too if your insurance covers it.

@op: if it's just a chip... safelite does the job. they did a chip on my CT

how much does it cost you in insurance? just the deductible? or is there something special with rock chips?

The minor swirls/scuffs were so minor I knew I could hand buff them out quick, wasn't worth it to make a fuss, unlike when Honda did the LMS recall (paint chips & scratches all over).

New rubber & sealant all around, and pulled it in to my garage right after, as it looked like rain that day. The Safelite mechanic that did the repair said something about keeping it dry for 24-48 hours.

Depending on the insurance coverage you have. I have full coverage but with a $500 deductable.... but it includes free windshield replacement (no deductable required).

After reading all the threads of cracked windshields occurring so often, I figured it would've happened more often, but in well over 3 1/2 years I only needed it once. I suspect the new Safelite one is a little stronger (lack of better word) than the OEM one...

I had progressive for a number of years and repaired about 5 rock chips. Took them to the local glass shop and they Billed insurance directly. No deductible, no fees, no increase in rate... FREE. We don't have replacement windshield coverage here so it all depends on your deductible how much you pay. I used to change my Deductible in the winter to 250 from 500, then back in the spring/summer.
