for the record, my '12 is perfect.

i think the op is experiencing contamination from cleaning agents that bonded to the black matte paint on the b-pillar.

in such case i use a light polish and seal it with polymer.

the paint is soft and thin because of environmental responsibilities.

 

For me a repaint is not an option. This car has less than 1,500 miles on it. Has anyone addressed this with the dealer as a warranty issue?

 

I'm the OP, and no that's not it. There is no matte black paint on the b-pillars, my car is orange. I'm talking the b-pillars that make up the uni-body, not the outside on the doors. The paint is too thin in many spots all over the car.

The paint on these cars is the thinnest paint I've ever seen. Just rolling my mountain bike out of the rear - with a just put on new and therefore clean tire - the bike slid a little sideways and scraped completely through the paint to the plastic underneath. Fortunately I'm going to put the bumper protector on, and it will be hidden but that is stupidity. A brand new clean rubber tire shouldn't be able to scrape through paint.

The paint on these cars isn't soft and thin because of the environment. It's because Honda's cheap. The paint on my wife's 2013 CX-5 is gorgeous, you can tell it's several layers thick and the clearcoat is also much thicker, and it doesn't scratch anywhere near as easily. That car was built in Hiroshima, so it's not a Japan thing either. If my bike would load in the back, I'd get rid of the Fit for a Mazda 3 because I know that car won't have paint issues 5 years down the road as I feel I'm going to have. I don't see Mazdas rolling along with peeling clearcoat, but I do see lots of Accords that way.

 

Does every paint color have clear coat over it? Mine is a 2012 fit sport, milano red.

 

I have a 2012 Fit and I can't complain about how the paint has held up. It is as good as the 50 other cars that I have purchased new.
