Lowering gauge cluster brightness
Two weeks ago I bought my first Honda. I've always been a VW & Jeep guy (and still am) but traded in my 2011 GTI for a 2012 FIT Sport 5mt.
One thing I noticed (which REALLY annoys me) is that when you turn the key on, the gauge cluster is at full brightness until you turn the headlights on. In all my other cars, the cluster was off or dim with needles lit until you turned on the lights.
The owners manual says that brightness can be changed independently with or without the lights on, but I can't get the "daytime" brightness to change.
Am I doing something wrong, or is it supposed to be like that? I have sensitive eyes and having the lights come on really hurts =(

Corey Hart - Sunglasses At Night - YouTube
I'm not wearing shades at midnight when I get out of work.

I don't think you can change the brightness without the lights on. At least I never could in my 2010. It was bright as hell too.. I know. Changing to JDM red gauges did help quite a bit, but sourcing those is kinda hard :/

Why is it an issue? Serious, if Honda made it YOUR Way, then a bunch of other ppl would complain. I hate how this website has become a bitching post for new car owners. You never hear ppl complaining about the lack of cup holders on there Honda civic from the 90's. You know why? It's an old car. Noobs are called newbs for a reason, they are new to something

The OP simply asked if the brightness were adjustable. Asked and answered.
We all know that a car under $20k isn't going to have every feature possible (like one-touch window controls for all the windows, or a sunroof option, or even a locking gas cap and glove box) but what's wrong with asking if the car has a feature someone can't find?

Thanks for all the replies. I guess I'll have to get used to turning on the headlights before turning the key
I admit, I am a n00b to Honda (except body work) but definitely not to cars in general. I've had quite a few projects in the past but decided to give it all up for financial security

You drive a 2008? stop trolling around the 2nd gen threads. You drive an old ass car that no one really cares about anymore. Your mods are old news and no longer in style. No one cares about coilovers, racing rims, intakes and exhausts. That's the old crap. Winkers and tints, kinda getto. JDM??? I mean really....Don't you know all the good cars are made in China now? Move on. We are. Its no longer Honda Power baby it's Panda Power getting all Year of the Dragon shit and pretty soon it'll be Enchilada Power with cars powered by Hot Peppers. Yeah Baby!!!
Did this make you angry? good. Now you know how it feels...
PS this poster ( wontfit ) has a history of small man syndrome ( the user name gives it away ) and goes around all the threads and annoys people.

To say this site is a place to bitch isn't exactly true. A lot of people come here asking questions and looking for solutions to minor things. It's an open forum, if you don't like it then just leave. No sense staying (or in this case, COMMENTING) if it bothers you that much.
