2013 Fit release date? (not the EV)

I am interested in buying a new Fit but wanted to know if I should wait for the 2013 model to come out (I am interested in the regular gas Fit, not the EV)

Can anyone provide information as to when the 2013 model will be released in the US? Historically, when has Honda typically released the fits?

Thanks in advance for your help!

-John

The non-EV 2013 Fit has not been announced yet. If I recall, last year they came out fairly early. I think they started showing up at dealers in August.

According to Temple of Vtec, NA Fit production begins in 2014 Temple of VTEC Rumors and News - Honda to begin North American Fit production in 2014

On Honda's News site, there is another article that includes references to NA Fit production, but doesn't give specific dates, but 2014 seems likely. A Perfect Fit – Honda’s Growing Auto Production in North America

I don't think Honda would bring a new factory on line only to change tooling for a new model within 1 or 2 years. Bottom line from my perspective: we'll get a new Fit in 2014 with direct injected motor and 6 speed manual, but I'm not going to wait for it. Also, I wouldn't buy the first model year of a new model/motor/manufacturing plant.

My GE8 2012 Fit sport was made in China.

We don't know if Honda will consolidate NA production of the Fit in Mexico, or continue sourcing Canada's Fits from China. Has anybody measured a qualitative difference between the Japan and China sourced Fits? My gut says stay away from the China sourced Fits, but that just may be an uneducated bias showing. Being made in China hasn't hurt Apple, if you don't count that whole iMac G5 fiasco. And treatment of workers at suppliers. Oh never mind.

I would wait for 2013 to see if they made any slight changes to the body or added any small features- I like what they did for 2012 with the front bumper, not so much the wheels.

As for being assembled in Mexico, big deal. I own two VW's assembled in Mexico- zero problems. My previous German assembled Audi had many more issues than these two ever will.

Having owned Japanese built cars, Canadian built cars, Merican cars and a Mexican built car.

NEVER AGAIN WILL I TOUCH A CAR BUILT IN MEXICO.

Just buy a 2012, 2013 will be more of the same.

If you do want to wait, September is a good bet.

From what I understand, 2013 will be much like 2012. There may be a new standard feature or 2, but basically the same car. I think Honda spent their R&D on the EV model.

Nothing concrete, but if Honda's history says anything there won't be any "drastic" changes for 2013. The mid-cycle facelift was 2012 MY so they won't be spending more money on changes 1 year after. There are big changes in store for the next gen (likely the 2015 model, production beginning in 2014) so nearly all of the budget has shifted to that.

That being said, I would still wait for the 2013 models to start showing up on dealers' lots. When they first start dropping they'll need to clear out the 2012s. Best time to score a deal, as long as you're not too picky about the color.

Just about every competitor has released a subcompact since the GE was introduced, and if sales remain strong, they could refresh this car until the competitors' next gen cars come out in 2015-2016. Fascia enhancements and interior changes might be the smartest move if they tool their line for the current gen in mexico. Maybe the next fit will be based on the same platform, minimizing production changes. That way they sell less vehicles, but remain profitable without having to dump R&D money. They kept the last one in production for what, 8 years worldwide?

I have one made in china, i was slightly nervous about it at first but it runs great and no issues so far.

I don't think a company like Honda thats known for reliability would let quality standards drop. I remember reading that they bring in Japanese employees to make sure things are done right.

I don't know. The platform has been robust enough to support an eight year run; however, without going direct inject, improving the tensile strength of the vehicle, and evolving its aesthetics and fuel efficiency, the car would eventually become a burden to Honda, even if the only reason for its existence is to maintain market share/client base. Remember, Honda says they're losing money on every North American Fit sold as a result of the dollar's weakness against the yen, but producing the 2014 Fit in a country where the the car could become profitable to Honda, then the R&D expenditure could make sense. I hope so, as I've been Honda loyal for years but now I believe they've stagnated. Honestly, the only vehicle they make that interests me and I can afford is the Fit. I'm hoping the upcoming NSX redeems Honda and shows they still have spirit, even if it's just one more awesome car beyond my means at this time.

If the only Honda you can afford is the Fit, why even care about the other new ones? The cars are selling just fine, Americans don't like sporty cars, they want to be as detached from the driving experience as possible.

^ What he said. They just changed the front end design for the 2012 so more than likely it will be a few years before a refresh.
