I too, thank you Dwalbert320 for the DIY and pictures. Replaced my cup holder bulb today to blue LED. I hope mine shines as bright as yours because what I can see now, in the daylight, the intensity is not that great. Therefore wondering...since I purchased several of these 74 SP bulbs, is there any way to piggyback the others?
Also Dwalbert320, have you had any luck on replacing the auto shifter light? If so...might be time for another DIY...please!!!

i was able to change out the auto select lever light with the same blue LED for the cupholder.
1. remove the whole center console. watch
and follow how they remove it. and this http://www.collegehillshonda.com/ins...cshiftknob.pdf to remove the shift knob.
2. once u got those off, u will be left with the oval panel with the gear letters on it. u can lift that up, u will see theres a wire leading to a small socket underneath. twist it counterclockwise and pull gently and u will find the bulb. remove it and replace it with your led bulb.
mind you that when i replaced it with a blue led, the red P and N letters don't light up anymore. its either my blue LED is not bright enough or maybe the RED tint on the letters is filtering out the blue light.

The red color comes from filtering out the non-red wavelengths of light, leaving only the red behind. LEDs are, by the nature of how they produce light, monochromatic light sources (unlike incandescent bulbs), so the blue wavelength is about all that is produced and gets blocked by the red letter.
For pigments and paints, the color comes from reflecting only certain wavelengths; if you add something that reflects red (and absorbs other colors) to something that reflects blue, you get something that somewhat reflects both red and blue, which we see as a (darkish) purple.
(White LEDs are of course not monochromatic; IIRC they're typically blue LEDs internally with a special phosphor coating in the lens that absorbs some of the blue light and glows with a yellowish glow. The actual diode junction still emits a single color of light.)

Thanks Dwalbert for the write up and pictures. Helped a lot! I just got done doing the install on my own car. I used red in mine. I'll toss up a picture tonight when the suns not bearing straight down on us.
